Objectives
Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The course aims at providing elements of classical mechanics, which have relevance for engineering, with particular regard to the acquisition of scientific methodology, and in order to provide the physical basis for the study of higher level teaching.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
The student must be able to acquire sufficient understanding to apply his knowledge to solving problems in mechanics.

MAKING JUDGEMENT:
The student must develop critical spirit and autonomy of judgment in order to solve problems such as those introduced during teaching.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
The student must be able to communicate in a rigorous and effective way the concepts learned during teaching.

LEARNING SKILLS:
The student must develop effective methodologies for learning the fundamental elements of teaching.
Prerequisites
Elementary tools of algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and knowledge of simple functions and their graphs.
Contents
Fundamental interactions. Physical quantities, dimensions, units of measurement. Mathematical tools for the study of Physics.
Vectors. Graphical and cartesian representation. Vector algebra: vector algebraic addition (graphical method and cartesian form). Algebraic product, scalar product, cross product.
Kinematics of the material point. Uniform rectilinear motion. Uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion. Motion in a gravitational field. Uniform circular motion and uniformly accelerated circular motion (scalar form and vectorial form). Hints on Poisson formula. Hints on composition of accelerations.
Dynamics of the material point. Fundamental principles of mechanics (Newton). Internal forces and external forces. Static friction and dynamic friction. Work of a force. Impulse. Quantity of motion. Moment of a vector, moment of a force, angular momentum. Simple machines: pulleys, bodies that move with and without friction.
Teaching Methods
Lessons and exercises will be conducted also with the adoption, during the exercises, of interactive methods that provide information on the degree of understanding achieved by the students.
Verification of learning
The evaluation of the achievement of the set objectives takes place through a written test. The general judgment criteria are related to the student's ability to solve simple problems and to mathematically describe physical phenomena related to basic classical physics. In the written exam, exercises will relate to application of fundamental concepts and calculation techniques to exemplary cases of elementary physical phenomena. The judging criteria are the contents, the expository rigor, the writing properties. The final evaluation is expressed as "passed / failed".
