APPLICATION: USING INFORMATION THROUGH APPLICATION TO NEW BUT FAMILIAR CONTEXTS, USING INFORMATION TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, IDENTIFYING CONNECTIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS AND HOW THEY APPLY, ANALYZING LANGUAGE COMPONENTS TO EXPLORE UNDERSTANDINGS AND RELATIONSHIPS

COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS: INTEGRATION OF THE FOUR COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS IN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS: READING AND UNDERSTANDING A RANGE OF AUTHENTIC ACADEMIC TEXTS; LISTENING TO LECTURES, PRESENTATIONS AND INTERVIEWS; WRITING A VARIETY OF ESSAY TYPES; PREPARING AND GIVING PRESENTATIONS; RECOGNIZING AND USING ACADEMIC GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY.

THE COURSE INTEGRATES THE FOUR MAIN SKILLS AND ACADEMIC LANGUAGE RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION, ORDER, CHANGE, CULTURE AND INTERPRETATION. IT ALSO FOCUSES ON DEVELOPING ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR ACADEMIC STUDY SUCH AS: 1.READING AND UNDERSTANDING SHORT INFORMATIVE TEXTS, NOTE-TAKING, ORGANIZING KEY INFORMATION TO WRITE A SUMMARY, UNDERSTANDING THE INTRODUCTION TO A LECTURE, REPORTING ON A SEMINAR DISCUSSION;2.RECOGNIZING AND WRITING DEFINITIONS, PRESENTING VISUAL INFORMATION; 3.ANALYSING AND WRITING TOPIC SENTENCES, UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN IDEAS IN A LECTURE;4. IDENTIFYING THE PURPOSE AND STRUCTURE OF A TEXT, WRITING AN ESSAY INTRODUCTION, GIVING A SHORT PRESENTATION; 5. UNDERSTANDING A DESCRIPTION OF A PROCESS, WRITING A PARAGRAPH DESCRIBING A PROCESS, USING NOTES TO GIVE A DETAILED EXPLANATION; 6. RECOGNIZING AND CATEGORIZING SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES, FACTS AND OPINIONS; 7. STATING AND SUPPORTING THE MAIN ARGUMENT; UNDERSTANDING CAUSE AND EFFECT PHENOMENA IN DIFFERENT FIELDS, PLANNING AND STRUCTURING A CAUSE AND EFFECT ESSAY.
