Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: ACQUISITION OF A SCIENTIFIC COMPETENCE OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE IN ITS ASPECTS PHONETICS, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC AND STYLISTIC. ACQUISITION OF SCIENTIFIC AND CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE OF LINES DEVELOPMENT OF LATIN LITERATURE AND ISSUES RELATED TO INDIVIDUAL WRITERS AND THEIR WORKS. ABILITY TO READ, CONTEXTUALIZE, INTERPRET, ON THE FLOOR LINGUISTIC-PHILOLOGICAL-LITERARY, UNDERSTAND AND TRANSLATE THE LATIN LITERARY SOURCES. ACQUISITION OF SCIENTIFIC FUNDAMENTALS OF LATIN PROSODY AND METRICS.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE ABILITY TO SELF-READING, CONTEXTUALIZATION, INTERPRETATION, TRANSLATION AND UNDERSTANDING OF LATIN LITERARY SOURCES. ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED SKILLS AND RELATED KNOWLEDGE IN READING AND ANALYSIS OF TEXTS BELONGING TO OTHER TIMES AND OTHER HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL REALITIES.
MAKING JUDGMENTS: THE FORMATION OF A CAPACITY FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION OF TEXTS AND PROBLEMS OF LATIN LITERATURE THAT IS INDEPENDENT AND BASED ON SCIENTIFIC PARAMETERS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE CONTENT, DATA AND RESULTS IN A MANNER RIGOROUS, MAKING USE OF A SPECIFIC LANGUAGE. ABILITY TO PRESENT CRITICAL REFLECTIONS IN A MANNER CONSISTENT AND CLEAR.
LEARNING SKILLS: ABILITY TO ACQUIRE A CORRECT METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY ALSO IN VIEW OF A SELF-LEARNING.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF PROSODY, MORPHOLOGY AND SYNTAX OF LATIN; GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF ROMAN HISTORY.

1) HISTORIC LATIN GRAMMAR. THE NOMINAL INFLECTION. DEEPENING, IN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, OF THE CONCEPTS OF PHONETICS, MORPHOLOGY, SYNTAX, PROSODY, METRIC.
2) THE SCIENTIFIC AND CRITICAL TOOLS FOR THE STUDY OF LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE. HISTORY OF LATIN LITERATURE TO LITERARY GENRES, ISSUES, THEMES, AND GENERAL PROBLEMS. HINTS TO THE PROBLEM OF THE MANUSCRIPT TRADITION OF INDIVIDUAL WRITHERS.

THE LESSONS WILL BE INTEGRATED WITH:
A) THE STUDY OF AN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS OF THE HISTORY OF LATIN LITERATURE, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO PAINTINGS OF HISTORICAL REFERENCE OF VARIOUS AGES, LITERARY GENRES AND TO THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTISTIC PERSONALITIES (PLAUTUS, ENNIUS, TERENCE, CATULLUS, LUCRETIUS, CICERO, CAESAR, SALLUST, VIRGIL, HORACE, TIBULLUS, PROPERTIUS, OVID, LIVY, SENECA, LUCAN, PETRONIUS, PERSIUS, STATIUS, MARTIAL, TACITUS, JUVENAL, APULEIUS, AUGUSTINE);
B) STUDY, FOR MAIN TOPICS (PHONETICS; MORPHOLOGY, SYNTAX OF THE CASES, OF THE VERB, OF THE PERIOD), OF A MANUAL OF LATIN LANGUAGE;
C) THE STUDY OF THE CONSTITUENT ELEMENTS OF HEXAMETER, OF THE ELEGIAC COUPLET, OF IAMBIC METERS, OF METERS OF CATULLUS AND HORACE;
D) THE STUDY OF AN AUTHOR AND A LITERARY GENRE THROUGH THE STUDY OF A SHORT MONOGRAPH.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS LESSONS OF LATIN LANGUAGE, LESSONS OF LATIN LITERATURE AND LESSONS, WHICH FOCUS ON THE CLASSICS, THEY INCLUDE READING, TRANSLATION AND EXEGESIS LINGUISTIC, STYLISTIC, PROSODIC-METRIC AND PHILOLOGICAL-LITERARY.
Verification of learning
SYSTEMATIC CONTROL OF LEARNING, LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY, THROUGH THE INVOLVEMENT 'ACTIVE' OF STUDENTS. FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION, ADDRESSED TO ESTABLISH: THE LEVEL OF SCIENTIFIC SKILLS ABOUT THE LATIN LANGUAGE, THE LATIN LITERATURE AND IN THE ANALYSIS OF TEXTS; THE POSSESSION OF AN "TECHNICAL" LANGUAGE AS WELL AS OF A RIGOROUS METHODOLOGY, ALSO APPLICABLE IN OTHER DISCIPLINES; CONSISTENCY AND CLARITY OF EXPOSURE.
