Objectives
THE COURSE PROVIDES BASIC INFORMATION ON CHRISTIAN LITERATURE OF THE EARLY CENTURIES. THIS GOAL IS PURSUED BY THE STUDY OF ITS MOST SIGNIFICANT AUTHORS AND HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF EXEMPLARY TEXTS.
THE COURSE WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN LITERATURE OF THE FIRST CENTURIES, EVEN FROM A LINGUISTIC POINT OF VIEW; PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RELATIONSHIP WITH ANCIENT LITERATURE AND TO THE IMPORTANCE OF CHRISTIAN LITERATURE IN THE SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENT OF EUROPEAN LITERATURE.
BY THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE LITERARY AND LINGUISTIC EVENTS WITH THE AIM OF UNDERSTANDING THE ELEMENTS AT THE ORIGIN OF EUROPEAN CULTURE AND THE CONTINUITY BETWEEN ANCIENT CHRISTIAN AND MEDIEVAL AND MODERN LITERATURE; ONE FURTHER OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO ENABLE STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE ABILITY TO RAISE THE HISTORICAL RECORD, TO SITUATE IT IN CONTEXT.
Prerequisites
CONSOLIDATED KNOWLEDGE OF WRITTEN AND ORAL ITALIAN; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF EUROPEAN HISTORY; THE KNOWLEDGE OF LATIN AND GREEK IS DESIRABLE BUT NOT MANDATORY.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 30 HOURS OF LECTURES; IT HAS SEMINARY CHARACTER AND PREVENTS THE READING AND COMMENTARY OF TEXTS. FREQUENCY IS LIVELY RECOMMENDED.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAM, CONSISTING IN THE PREPARATION AND DISCUSSION OF A REPORT ON A TOPIC CHOSEN AND AGREED WITH THE TEACHER
EXAMINATION CRITERIA:
1) ABILITY TO ARTICULATE A COMPLEX DISCOURSE
2) ABILITY TO SPEAK CLEARLY AND WITH APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE
3) ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE TEXTS BY INSERTING THEM INTO A PRECISE LOGICAL AND HISTORICAL FRAMEWORK
4) ABILITY TO SELECT DATA, STORING ACCURATELY THE SIGNIFICANT ONES.
