Objectives
THE TEACHING IS INTENDED TO ACQUIRE A CORRECT STUDY METHOD, THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ROMAN HISTORY, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. IN PARTICULAR:
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND: KNOW THE MAJOR MOMENTS OF ROMAN HISTORY AND THE GEOGRAPHICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS OF REFERENCE, AND UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF ROMAN CIVILIZATION IN THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN CIVILIZATION,
TO ORIENT IN ANCIENT HISTORY AND TO DIFFERENTIATE HISTORY AND HISTORIOGRAPHY.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: 1. ABILITY TO USE THE SKILLS ACQUIRED IN THE MOST GENERAL CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONTEXT AND IN PARTICULAR WAY TO SHOW TO KNOW HOW TO REFLECT ON THE THEMES OF YOUR WORK, TO BE ABLE TO CLARIFY THEM WITH CLARITY AND TO BE ABLE TO SET AND SOLVE ANY PROBLEMS CONNECTED BOTH AT THE HISTORICAL-CRITICAL LEVEL AND INTERPRETATIVE, USING THE INSTRUMENTS OF THE DISCIPLINE AND THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE RESEARCH METHOD.

TOPICS: THE FOUNDATION OF ROME - THE MONARCHY - THE FIRST REPUBLIC - THE CONQUEST OF CENTRAL ITALY - THE CONQUEST OF THE MEDITERRANEAN - THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE CONQUESTS - THE GRACCHI - THE CRISIS OF THE REPUBLIC - AUGUST AND THE BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE - THE EMPIRE IN THE FIRST AND SECOND CENTURIES AD - THE CRISIS OF THE THIRD CENTURY AD - DIOCLETIAN - CONSTANTINE AND THE CHRISTIAN EMPIRE - THE FALL OF THE WESTERN EMPIRE.
FORM 2) (3 CREDITS) - REFLECTIONS ON HISTORY AND ITS MEANING.
FORM 3) (3 CFU): AUGUSTUS AND THE STOICISM: PHILOSOPHY AND GOVERNMENT OF THE EMPIRE.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING PROVIDES 60 HOURS OF DIDACTICS (12 CREDITS) WITH FRONTAL LESSONS, USING AUDIOVISUAL INSTRUMENTS, WITH THE PROJECTION OF DIDACTIC MATERIALS (GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS, EPIGRAPHIC TEXTS, HISTORICAL AND GEOGRAPHIC MAPS, ARTWORKS, PHOTOGRAPHS), MATERIALS THAT WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN PDF FILES ON THE TEACHER'S INSTITUTIONAL WEB PAGE. ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. AT THE EXAMINATION, THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO BRING WITH HIM THE STUDY TEXTS AND THE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS USED.
Verification of learning
ORAL INTERVIEW TENDED TO EVALUATE THE LEVEL OF LEARNING OF THE DISCIPLINE AND THE ABILITY OF CRITICAL RE-PROCESSING OF THE TOPICS COVERED. EXAMINATION EVALUATION CRITERIA WILL BE: 1. ABILITY TO EXPRESS YOURSELF WITH CLARITY AND WITH AN APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, USING SPECIFIC TERMS OF THE DISCIPLINE; 2. ABILITY TO INSERT THE EVENTS OF HISTORY INTO A PRECISE LOGICAL, CHRONOLOGICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL FRAMEWORK; 3. ABILITY TO SELECT THE DATA, CORRECTLY HIGHLIGHTING THE SIGNIFICANT DATA; 4. ABILITY TO ARTICULATE A COMPLEX SPEECH, DEMONSTRATING THE ACQUISITION OF A HISTORICAL MENTALITY, AND THE ABILITY TO ILLUSTRATE THE CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER DISCIPLINARY AREAS.
