Objectives
LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: 'LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE' MEANS THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AS THEY ARE ANALYTICALLY ADDRESSED IN THE FOLLOWING ITEMS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE OFA COURSE FOR THE RETRIEVAL OF LINGUISTIC EDUCATION SKILLS IS MANDATORY FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE PLACED IN THE GENERAL PLACEMENT TEST IN THE B-RANGE OF THE RANKING, HAVING REVEALED SIGNIFICANT GAPS IN THE PREPARATION NECESSARY TO ACCESS A COURSE OF STUDY IN LETTERS. ONLY BY ATTENDING THE COURSE AND PASSING THE FINAL EXAM CAN THE DEBT BE REPAID AND THE COURSE EXAMS TAKEN. IN PARTICULAR, STUDENTS WITH THE DEBT IN ITALIAN LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THE ITALIAN LINGUISTICS EXAM AND, IN GENERAL, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENROL IN THE 2ND YEAR OF THE COURSE IF THEY HAVE NOT PAID THE DEBT IN TIME FOR ENROLMENT.
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO HELP STUDENTS TO MAKE UP FOR SOME LINGUISTIC-GRAMMATICAL DEFICIENCIES NECESSARY TO FACE THE DEGREE COURSE IN LETTERS.
IN FACT, THE COURSE FOCUSES ON TWO STRONGLY RELATED THEMES:
1) THE UNDERSTANDING OF TEXTS OF DIFFERENT GENRES AND REFLECTION ON THEIR ORGANIZATION;
2) THE REFLECTION ON GRAMMATICAL ASPECTS OF THE CHOSEN GENRES.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
ABILITY TO ANALYSE TEXTS OF DIFFERENT NATURE WITH GREATER AWARENESS AND TO REFLECT ON THE MOST IMPORTANT GRAMMATICAL AND TEXTUAL ASPECTS.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT:
ABILITY TO CRITICALLY ORGANIZE AND INTERPRET COMPLEX DATA AND INFORMATION IN THE SPECIFIC FIELD OF STUDIES.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE TO A NON-SPECIALIST AUDIENCE INFORMATION, IDEAS, CRITICAL REFLECTIONS OF A LINGUISTIC-TEXTUAL NATURE WITH LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND GOOD THOUGHT ARTICULATION.
LEARNING SKILLS:
ACQUISITION OF THE REFERENCES, TOOLS AND LEARNING SKILLS NEEDED TO FURTHER DEVELOP THE LANGUAGE SKILLS ACQUIRED AND TO APPLY THESE SKILLS TO OTHER TEACHINGS IN THE COURSE OF STUDY.
Prerequisites
PREREQUISITES:
THE COURSE REQUIRES STUDENTS TO HAVE THE GRAMMATICAL SKILLS NORMALLY FORESEEN BY THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM OF BOTH LOWER AND UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOLS: IN PARTICULAR, THE ABILITY TO DISTINGUISH THE DIFFERENT LEXICAL CATEGORIES (NOUNS, VERBS, ADJECTIVES, PREPOSITIONS, ETC.), THE DIFFERENT LOGICAL FUNCTIONS (SUBJECT, PREDICATE, ETC.) AND THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND DESCRIBE THE SYNTACTICAL STRUCTURE OF A PERIOD, HIGHLIGHTING ITS CONSTITUENT ELEMENTS.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO TEN TEACHING UNITS WHICH MUST BE CARRIED OUT ENTIRELY AND WHICH PRESENT VERIFICATION EXERCISES THAT GIVE ACCESS TO THE FINAL EXAM. ALL THE TEACHING UNITS HAVE THE SAME SEQUENCE OF ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISES DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS:
1.TEXT
2.GRAMMAR
3.VERIFY

1.TEXT SECTION: EACH TEACHING UNIT PRESENTS A TEXT PRECEDED BY A SHORT INTRODUCTION. STUDENTS SHOULD READ THIS INTRODUCTION IN WHICH THEY WILL ALSO FIND A REFERENCE TO THE APPROPRIATE CHAPTER OF THE BOOK G. BASILE, A.R. GUERRIERO, S. LUBELLO, COMPETENZE LINGUISTICHE PER L'ACCESSO ALL'UNIVERSITÀ, ROMA, CAROCCI EDITORE, 2006; NEW EDITION 2012. STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO READ THE PROPOSED PASSAGE CAREFULLY AND CARRY OUT THE COMPREHENSION EXERCISES AT THE END OF THE TEXT. THESE EXERCISES ARE INTENDED TO MAKE THE STUDENTS PRACTICE; IF THEY ARE NOT DONE CORRECTLY, IT IS POSSIBLE TO TRY TO DO THEM AGAIN AFTER CAREFULLY REREADING THE TEXT AND STUDYING THE RECOMMENDED CHAPTERS.

2.GRAMMAR SECTION: STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THE SAME PASSAGE AS IN THE TEXT SECTION, BUT WITH COLOURED WORDS. COLOURED WORDS CAN BE CLICKED TO OPEN WINDOWS WHERE THERE WILL BE GRAMMAR COMMENTS AND REFERENCES TO GRAMMAR PARAGRAPHS THAT STUDENTS CAN USE IF THEY NEED TO "REFRESH" THEIR KNOWLEDGE. ALL WORDS OF THE SAME COLOUR REFER TO THE SAME GRAMMAR COMMENT. AFTER READING THE COMMENTS THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO DO THE GRAMMAR EXERCISES THAT ARE INTENDED TO MAKE THEM PRACTICE; IF THEY ARE NOT DONE CORRECTLY, IT IS POSSIBLE TO TRY THEM AGAIN AFTER HAVING CAREFULLY STUDIED THE RECOMMENDED GRAMMAR PARTS.


3.TESTING SECTION: IN THIS SECTION IT WILL BE VERIFIED WHETHER STUDENTS HAVE LEARNED THE NOTIONS DEALT WITH IN EACH TEACHING UNIT. THERE WILL THEN BE TEXT COMPREHENSION AND GRAMMAR EXERCISES.

WARNING: THESE EXERCISES CAN ONLY BE DONE ONCE. THEY SHOULD THEREFORE ONLY BE CARRIED OUT WHEN YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ACQUIRED ALL THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE. IF AT LEAST 6 EXERCISES OF EACH TEACHING UNIT ARE NOT DONE WELL, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM AND RECOVER THE DEBTS REPORTED IN THE GENERAL ACCESS TEST.

Verification of learning
STUDENTS WHO HAVE CHECKED IN TO THE COURSE AND HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AT LEAST 6 ASSESSMENT EXERCISES IN EACH UNIT WILL BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM. THE FINAL EXAM WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE UNIVERSITY AND WILL CONSIST OF A TEST THAT FOLLOWS THE EXERCISES CARRIED OUT DURING THE COURSE. THE PRELIMINARY VERIFICATION AT THE MOMENT OF THE EXAM WILL BE MADE BY THE TEACHER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COURSE WHO WILL HAVE TO GIVE THE STUDENT THE AUTHORIZATION TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM.

STUDENTS WILL BE CONVOKED IN OCTOBER 2020 BY PROF. GRAZIA BASILE WHO WILL ILLUSTRATE HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE ONLINE OFA COURSE FOR THE RETRIEVAL OF LINGUISTIC EDUCATION SKILLS AND THE ORGANIZATION OF IT. STUDENTS WILL THEN BE ABLE TO START STUDYING THE TEACHING UNITS OF THE COURSE AND WEEKLY THROUGHOUT THE FIRST SEMESTER THE TEACHER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS FOR EXPLANATIONS, CLARIFICATIONS, ETC..
STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO CARRY OUT ALL 10 TEACHING UNITS AND EXERCISES AND ONLY THEN THEY WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE FINAL EXAM.
THE OFA COURSE FOR THE RETRIEVAL OF LINGUISTIC EDUCATION SKILLS SHALL BE HELD DURING THE FIRST SEMESTER. THE FINAL EXAM TO REPAY THE DEBT WILL BE HELD AT THE END OF THE FIRST SEMESTER.
