Objectives
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE MAIN THEORETICAL ELEMENTS OF THE DISCIPLINE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO ORIENT THEMSELVES IN THE WRITTEN SOURCES AND RELATIVE PLACES OF CONSERVATION.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1. MODES OF TRANSMISSION OF GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS
2. CRITERIA AND METHODS OF TEXTUAL CRITICISM
3. PROCESS OF TRAINING AND TECHNIQUE OF THE CRITICAL EDITION (WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE PREPARATION OF THE CRITICAL APPARATUS)
4. MODE OF EXEGESIS
5. TEXTUAL CRITICISM AND EXEGESIS OF GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1. KNOW HOW TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS AND THEIR TRADITION
2. ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND DISCUSS, WITH CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, PHILOLOGICAL PROBLEMS
3. ACQUIRING THE BASICS OF AN ECLECTIC AND VERSATILE COGNITIVE ABILITY
4. ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF CONTIGUOUS DISCIPLINARY AREAS.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INITIATE AN AUTONOMOUS PROCESS OF ELABORATION OF THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, LINKING THE ORIGIN FROM DIFFERENT FIELDS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
ABILITY TO REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, BY MEANS OF TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS CARRIED OUT ACCORDING TO CORRECT INVESTIGATION METHODS.

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
1. USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING RESOURCES;
2. CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS OF A LITERARY OR PARALITERARY TYPE;
3. PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND LITERARY PRODUCTION OF EACH ERA IN A CONTINUOUS INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE.
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF PROSODY AND MORPHOSYNTAX OF GREEK AND LATIN LANGUAGES.

5. TEXTUAL CRITICISM AND EXEGESIS OF GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS (HOMER, SAPPHO, ALCAEUS, CATULLUS, HORATIUS).
Teaching Methods
DURING THE COURSE, IN ADDITION TO TEACHER'S LECTURES, EXERCISES AND SHORT DISCUSSIONS ON THE TEXTS WILL BE PROPOSED TO CHECK THE DEGREE OF ONGOING RECEPT AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE TOPICS
Verification of learning
THE EXAM WILL VERIFY THE ACQUISITION OF:
1. ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS AND THEIR TRADITION
2. ABILITY TO COMMENT CRITICALLY AND DISCUSS, WITH CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, PHYLOGICAL PROBLEMS
3. ABILITY TO INTERACT WITH THE CONTRIBUTION OF CONTIGUOUS DISCIPLINARY AREAS.
THE ORAL EXAM WILL TAKE THE FORM OF AN OPEN AND INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE.
THE ASSESSMENT CONCERNING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS ACQUIRED WILL GIVE A PROPER EVALUATION.
