Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH GOOD PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL PREPARATION IN FRENCH. THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS COURSE IS TO PROVIDE BASIC METALINGUISTIC LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE IN FRENCH AT A TEXTUAL LEVEL, BE ABLE TO TRANSLATE A FRENCH TEXT INTO ITALIAN, AND ACHIEVE A LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO A2 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES (CEFR). THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES IS VERIFIED IN A WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAM.
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF AN ANNUAL MODULE AND ANNUAL LANGUAGE EXERCISES CLOSELY INTEGRATED AND COORDINATED BY THE TEACHER.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL:
-LEARN, IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORMS, THE FRENCH LANGUAGE CORRESPONDING AT LEAST TO A2 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES;
-KNOW ABOUT THE BASIC PRINCIPLES AND METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF TEXTS;
-KNOW ABOUT THE ORIGIN, EVOLUTION AND STRUCTURE OF THE FOUNDATIONS OF FRENCH LANGUAGE AS WELL AS ITS LINGUISTIC VARIETIES SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD;
-LEARN THE REFERENCE PHONETIC NORMS OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE AT THE TWENTIETH CENTURY AND AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-SPEAK CORRECTLY AND FLUENTLY IN FRENCH ON TOPICS OF LEISURE AND WORK: (BASIC PERSONAL AND FAMILY INFORMATION, SHOPPING, TRAVELING, LOCAL GEOGRAPHY, EMPLOYMENT, HOBBIES, LINGUISTIC AND METALINGUISTIC REFERENCES, LINGUISTIC VARIETIES (PHONETIC AND PHONOLOGICAL) OF FRENCH (CECR A2 LEVEL);
-TRANSLATE SHORT TEXTS OF DIFFERENT KINDS (NEWSPAPER, ADVERTISING AND TOURISM) FROM FRENCH INTO ITALIAN;
-ANALYSE SIMPLIFIED TEXTS OF FRENCH CULTURE AND LINGUISTICS;
-ELABORATE, IN SHORT COMPOSITIONS, THE TEXTS OF THE BASIC COURSE.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-CARRY OUT A CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THE FEATURES OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE;
-DEVELOP SUITABLE STRATEGIES TO MANAGE THE FOUR LANGUAGE SKILLS (LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING AND WRITING)
-EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS PRESENTED;
-DISCERN THE TYPES OF STRUCTURES, SETTINGS AND CONTENTS, TEXTS OF DIFFERENT KINDS: NEWSPAPERS, ONLINE ARTICLES, VIDEO SUBTITLES, SIMPLE SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES, YOUTUBE, WEBSITES IN ORDER TO SELECT TOPICS AND TEXTS OF DIFFERENT NATURE FOR THE DRAFTING OF A WRITTEN COMPOSITION (ONLY FOR FRENCH LANGUAGE I STUDENTS)
- SELECT TOPICS AND TEXTS OF DIFFERENT NATURE IN A SHORT COMPOSITION (ONLY FOR FRENCH LANGUAGE I STUDENTS)

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE IN FRENCH IN EVERYDAY AND UNIVERSITY CONTEXTS.
-PRESENT AND DISCUSS, BY MEANS OF TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH OR THEIR OWN SHORT ESSAYS.

LEARNING SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE THE BASIC TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND SOME IT RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING;
-CARRY OUT BASIC RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET SIMPLE TEXTS, OF ADVERTISING OR NEWSPAPER ONES;
- PROCEED WITH UPDATING THEIR KNOWLEDGE, MAKING USE OF SOME SIMPLIFIED SCIENTIFIC TEXTS.
Prerequisites
THE COURSE IS AIMED AT BEGINNERS OR STUDENTS WITH AN ELEMENTARY KNOWLEDGE OF FRENCH LANGUAGE.

THE COURSE OFFERS A THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL APPROACH TO ENSURE THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN EVERYDAY CONTEXTS AND TO READ, UNDERSTAND, SUMMARISE AND ANALYSE SHORT TEXTS IN FRENCH. THE TOOLS PROVIDED WILL AIM TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO ADAPT TO VARIOUS COMMUNICATIVE SITUATIONS, BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN, AND TO BRING THE STUDENT CLOSER TO DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF FRENCH LINGUISTICS (PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY, ELEMENTS OF LEXICOLOGY, LINGUISTIC VARIATION) AND FRENCH-SPEAKING CULTURES.
GRAMMAR EXERCISES AND VOCABULARY STUDY WILL BE USED TO STIMULATE SOCIOLINGUISTIC REFLECTION, DESCRIPTION AND INTERPRETATION OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE.
IN ORDER TO FACILITATE ANALYTICAL REFLECTION ON THE LANGUAGE, THE THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL LESSONS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES OF LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN SELF-STUDY MODE.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE COMPRISES 45 HOURS OF FACE-TO-FACE AND INTERACTIVE LECTURES + 88 HOURS OF LANGUAGE EXERCISES WITH THE LANGUAGE EXPERT (CEL).
Verification of learning
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, ONLY STUDENTS OF FRENCH LANGUAGE I, WHETHER ATTENDING OR NOT, ARE REQUIRED TO SIT AN EXAMINATION COMPRISING A PROPAEDEUTIC WRITTEN TEST, THE PASSING OF WHICH IS A PREREQUISITE FOR ADMISSION TO THE ORAL TEST.
THE WRITTEN TEST, LASTING 3 HOURS, WILL COVER THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE BASED ON THE CONTENTS OF THE TEXTBOOKS ADOPTED FOR THE STUDY OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE. THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO PASS A DICTATION TO TEST PHONETIC, PHONOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE, STRUCTURAL EXERCISES TO TEST ACQUIRED MORPHOLOGICAL AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE, A SHORT COMPOSITION IN FRENCH.
THE ORAL TEST, WHICH IS COMMON TO STUDENTS OF FRENCH LANGUAGE I AND FRENCH LANGUAGE (LETTERE CLASSICHE), INVOLVES VERIFYING THE MORPHOSYNTACTIC AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE LESSONS; CONVERSATION IN FRENCH ON THE TOPICS OF FRENCH LINGUISTICS CONTAINED IN THE TEXTBOOKS ADOPTED, THOSE PRESENTED IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN THE LANGUAGE WORKSHOPS; DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS THAT THE STUDENT HAS CHOSEN TO EXPLORE INDEPENDENTLY DURING THE LESSONS; READING, TRANSLATION, SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS OF A TEXT ON THE CIVILISATION AND CULTURE OF FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND DISCUSS THE TOPICS ACQUIRED.
THE FINAL MARK WILL BE THE RESULT OF THE AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH EXAMINATION.
FOR THOSE ATTENDING THE COURSE, THERE ARE SUBSTITUTED IN ITINERE TESTS FOR THE FINAL EXAMINATION.
