Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE AND OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEDIEVAL LATIN LANGUAGE

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
-WILL UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTAL DYNAMICS OF LATIN LITERARY PRODUCTION FROM THE SIXTH TO THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY THROUGH THE READING OF SIGNIFICANT AUTHORS AND TEXTS BELONGING TO ALL DIFFERENT GENRES
-WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL AND SYNTACTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MEDIEVAL LATIN LANGUAGE AND ITS EVOLUTION IN RELATION TO ANCIENT LATIN AND THE VERNACULAR
-WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ROLE PLAYED BY MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE AS A MOMENT OF TRANSITION FROM LATIN AND CHRISTIAN CULTURE TO THAT OF MODERN EUROPE AND A PREMISE OF THE VERNACULAR LITERATURE
-WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ORAL AND WRITTEN CULTURE AND THE PROCESSES OF TRANSMISSION OF THE WRITTEN HERITAGE IN THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD
-WILL ACQUIRE BASIC KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO PHILOLOGICAL, LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY METHODOLOGIES, SPECIFICALLY IN THE MIDDLE LATIN LANGUAGE

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-ANALYZE AND INTERPRET, FROM A LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY POINT OF VIEW, TEXTS OF DIFFERENT TEXTUAL FORMS AND DIFFERENT GENRES
-SYSTEMATIZE, PROCESS AND INTERPRET LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY DATA
-USE THE MAIN SPECIFIC, TRADITIONAL AND IT BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-CRITICALLY SELECT THE INFORMATION WITH CONSCIOUS USE OF THE SOURCES FROM WHICH IT DERIVES
-RECONSTRUCT THE REFERENCE CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN WHICH TO PLACE AND CONSIDER LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY PHENOMENA ALSO IN THEIR TEMPORAL EVOLUTION

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE TO NON-SPECIALIST RECIPIENTS INFORMATION, IDEAS, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS IN THE SPECIFIC DISCIPLINARY FIELD WITH PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE AND GOOD ARTICULATION OF THOUGHT

THE COURSE OUTLINES THE CHARACTERISTICS AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE OF MEDIOLATIN EUROPE FROM THE VI TO THE XIV CENTURY, ILLUSTRATING THEM WITH EXEMPLARY CASES
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 42 HOURS OF LESSONS; IT IS SEMINARIAL IN CHARACTER AND PROVIDES FOR THE READING AND COMMENTING OF TEXTS.
Verification of learning
FINAL EXAM, WHICH MAY ALSO CONSIST OF THE PREPARATION OF A WRITTEN OR ORAL REPORT ON A TOPIC CHOSEN AND AGREED WITH THE TEACHER.
EXAMINATION CRITERIA:
1) ABILITY TO ARTICULATE A COMPLEX DISCOURSE
2) ABILITY TO SPEAK CLEARLY AND WITH APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE
3) ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE TEXTS BY INSERTING THEM INTO A PRECISE LOGICAL AND HISTORICAL FRAMEWORK
