KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA). THE THE ELEMENTS NECESSARY TO SET OUT AN LCA STUDY AS WELL AS TO UNDERSTAND AND CRITICALLY ANALYZE THE RESULTS WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE LEARNERS. LEARNERS WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND MANAGE THE MAIN ISSUES RELATED TO THE SITING OF WASTE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL FACILITIES AND SITING IN GENERAL. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: LEARNERS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO SET A LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT STUDY WITH REFERENCE TO THE STAGES OF GOANL AND SCOPE DEFINITION, INVENTORY ANALYSIS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS ANALYSIS. THE LECTURES WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY CASE STUDIES AND PRACTICAL EXERCISES IN ORDER TO HIGHLIGHT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEORETICAL AND OPERATIONAL REALITY. WITH REFERENCE TO THE PROBLEMS OF SITING, LEARNERS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY SOME MULTI-CRITERIA ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: LEARNERS WHO ARE CALLED TO DEAL WITH REAL ISSUES, WORKING BOTH INDIVIDUALLY AND IN GROUPS, WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO MAKE INDEPENDENT AND INFORMED JUDGMENTS ON THE ISSUES OF THE LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT AND SITING OF FACILITIES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE COURSE AIMS TO ENHANCE THE COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF LEARNERS THROUGH THEIR CONSTANT INVOLVEMENT IN THE THEORY LESSONS. IN THE PRACTICAL LESSONS, ALL STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO GIVE THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP. THE COURSE ALSO PROVIDES PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF WORK, BOTH INDIVIDUALLY AND IN GROUPS. MOREOVER, DURING THE LESSONS, LEARNERS WILL BE CONSTANTLY INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR COMMUNICATION SKILLS. LEARNING SKILLS: TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED, THE LEARNER WILL BE ABLE TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE STUDIES OF LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT AND FACILITIES SITING PROCEDURE AS WELL AS TO LEARN AND COMMUNICATE AUTONOMOUSLY NEW ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES. |

THE COURSE CONSISTS OF THEORETICAL LECTURES AND PRACTICAL CLASSES (EXERCISES). THE LECTURES WILL NOT HAVE A FIXED DURATION, BUT THEY WILL OCCPUPY THE TIME NECESSARY (ACCORDING TO THE PROGRAM AND THE TIME AVAILABLE) FOR MAXIMUM UNDERSTANDING AND PARTICIPATION OF THE LEARNERS. THE PRACTICAL EXERCISES WILL STIMULATE THE INVOLVEMENT OF LEARNERS AS INDIVIDUALS AND IN GROUPS. LESSONS INCLUDE THE USE OF VIDEO PROJECTOR, WHILE THE EXERCISES INVOLVING THE USE OF LAPTOPS. |
