Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN METHODS OF INVESTIGATION OF THE SUBSURFACE WITH GEOPHYSICAL INSTRUMENTS
AND AN APPROPRIATE CAPACITY OF UNDERSTANDING TO DEVELOP IDEAS ON THE APPLICATION OF GEOPHYSICAL METHODS.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
ACQUISITION OF APPROPRIATE SKILLS ABOUT INSTRUMENTAL TECHNIQUES, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF
EXPERIMENTAL GEOPHYSICAL MEASUREMENTS, FINALIZED TO PROBLEM SOLVING IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD,
USING A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH.

MAKING JUDGMENTS:
ABILITY TO ASSESS, EVEN IN PRESENCE OF LIMITED INFORMATION, THE APPLICABILITY AND FUNCTIONALITY
OF THE GEOPHYSICAL METHODS IN THE ANALYSIS AND RESOLUTION OF VARIOUS ISSUES IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL
FIELD. THEY WILL HAVE TO ENRICH THE KNOWLEDGE WITH CRITICAL SENSE AND RESPONSIBILITY,
DEALING WITH DIFFERENT SOURCES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
ACQUISITION OF APPROPRIATE COMMUNICATION SKILLS OF PROPOSALS AND CONCLUSIONS RELATIVE TO THE
PERFORMED ACTIVITIES OF APPLIED GEOPHYSICS, WITH RESPECT TO SPECIALISTS AND NOT SPECIALISTS
SUBSCRIBERS. THEY WILL HAVE TO HIGHLIGHT THE IMPLICATIONS OF THEIR CHOICES, MOTIVATING CLEARLY
WITH CAPACITY OF MEDIATION AND SYNTHESIS, DEVELOPED IN GROUP WORK.

LEARNING SKILL:
DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING SKILLS LIKELY TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP, ON THEIR OWN, FOCUS ON STANDARD
AND INNOVATIVE GEOPHYSICAL METHODS.
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND CLASSICAL PHYSICS (I.E. POTENTIAL FIELDS, ELECTROMAGNETICS,
ELASTICITY, ...) ARE NECESSARY.

THE COURSE PROVIDES THE THEORETICAL BASIS AND PRACTICES OF THE MAIN GEOPHYSICAL METHODS,
WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO APPLICATION IN THE FIELD OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES.

METHODS FOR GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY: PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ROCKS, SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF DATA ACQUISITION,
ANALYSIS OF GEOPHYSICAL SIGNALS, DATA INVERSION METHODS.

ELECTROMAGNETIC METHODS: ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY OF THE ROCKS, RESISTIVITY METHOD.

SEISMIC METHODS: ELASTIC PARAMETERS, REFRACTION AND REFLECTION SEISMIC, SEISMIC TOMOGRAPHY.

GEOPHYSICAL METHODS FOR SEISMIC MICROZONATION AND MONITORING OF UNSTABLE AREAS.

GEOPHYSICAL METHODS FOR THE DETECTION OF POLLUTANTS IN SOILS.

OUTLINE OF GRAVITY AND MAGNETIC METHODS.
