Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO DEEPEN THE UNDERSTANDING OF ENVIRONMENTAL PHENOMENA BY CONSIDERING THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES AND THE DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL SECTORS.
THE MAIN KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED IS LINKED TO THE FORMATION OF INORGANIC AND ORGANIC POLLUTANTS, TO THEIR IMPACT ON HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT. INNOVATIVE METRICS WILL BE ALSO SHOWED FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF THE INVESTIGATED PROCESSES .A PART OF THE COURSE WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE INTERACTION OF POLLUTANTS WITH THE CULTURAL HERITAGE.
THE MAIN SKILLS WILL BE:
- IDENTIFY THE MAIN POLLUTANTS IN THE DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL SECTORS
- DEFINE THE POTENTIAL DESTINIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS
- CHARACTERIZE POLLUTION PHENOMENA
Prerequisites
GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASICS OF ORGANIC, ANALYTICAL AND GENERAL CHEMISTRY IS NECESSARY.

THE COURSE OF 6 CFU - 60 HOURS - IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: ONE MAINLY OF ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY AND ONE WITH MORE SPECIFIC TOPICS RELATED TO THE CHEMISTRY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE. THE COURSE INCLUDES THE TREATMENT OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
- ATMOSPHERIC CHEMISTRY AND AIR POLLUTION (LECTURES 2 HOURS, EXERCISES 4 HOURS)
- THE CHEMISTRY OF AIR POLLUTION AT GROUND LEVEL (LECTURES 3 HOURS)
- INDOOR POLLUTION (FRONTAL LESSONS 3 HOURS)
- MAIN ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTANTS, SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS (LECTURES 3 HOURS, LABORATORY 8 HOURS)
- RADIOACTIVITY, RADON AND NUCLEAR ENERGY (FRONTAL LESSONS 1 HOUR)
- TOXIC HEAVY METALS (LECTURES 2 HOURS, LABORATORY 4 HOURS)
- SOIL AND SEDIMENTS (LECTURES 2 HOURS, LABORATORY 4 HOURS)
- GREEN METRICS (LCA AND GREEN METRICS) (LECTURES 3 HOURS, EXERCISES 8 HOURS)
- PAINTING MATERIALS (LECTURES 3 HOURS, LABORATORY 4 HOURS)
- STONE MATERIALS (FRONTAL LESSONS 1 HOUR, LABORATORY 4 HOURS)
- CELLULOSIC MATERIALS (FRONTAL LESSONS 1 HOUR)
Teaching Methods
CLASSROOM LESSONS WITH THE AID OF PROJECTED IMAGES. EXERCISES USING DEDICATED SOFTWARE. LABORATORY ACTIVITIES ARE PROVIDED (24H). TO GUARANTEE THE CONDUCT OF THE LABORATORY ACTIVITY IN SAFETY AND WITH COMPETENCE, THE SAME IS ALLOWED TO STUDENTS WHO ATTEND LECTURES AND EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM.
Verification of learning
ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS VERIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH A THIRTYTH EVALUATION. THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST DURING WHICH THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY TO CONNECT THE VARIOUS TOPICS OF THE COURSE TO THE CHEMICAL KNOWLEDGE INDICATED IN THE PREREQUISITES WILL VERIFY. FOR EACH LABORATORY EXPERIENCE A WRITTEN REPORT WILL BE PRODUCED THAT WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE FINAL ASSESSMENT.
THE MINIMUM MARK FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30, AND IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THE COURSE TOPICS.
THE MAXIMUM MARK (30) IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE COURSE TOPICS.

PRAISE MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM VOTE OF 30/30 AND WHO PROVE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY AUTONOMOUSLY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN THE LESSON
