Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS.
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO INTEGRATED MODULES: GEOLOGY AND GEOMORPHOLOGY.
THE FIRST MODULE HAS AS ITS GENERAL OBJECTIVE TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO THE PLANET EARTH: STRUCTURE, CONSTITUTION AND DYNAMICS, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND ITS HISTORY AND EVOLUTION.
THE SECOND MODULE, BUILDING ON THE FIRST MODULE, AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT LANDFORMS AND THE BASIS FOR RECOGNIZING THE GEOMORPHIC PROCESSES THAT GENERATED THEM AND THAT CHANGE THEM OVER TIME.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
FIRST MODULE: TO ACQUIRE ADEQUATE SKILLS IN RECOGNIZING CONSTITUENT MATERIALS, THE STRUCTURE OF THE EARTH'S CRUST, AND THE RECONSTRUCTION OF GEOLOGICAL EVENTS FROM THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED.
SECOND MODULE: SKILLS IN READING AND INTERPRETING LAND RELIEF SHAPES ON MAPS AND FROM IMAGES; SKILLS IN THE IDENTIFICATION, RECOGNITION AND DELINEATION ON MAPS AND FROM IMAGES OF LANDFORMS: UNDERSTANDING OF GEOMORPHIC PROCESSES RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR FORMATION AND EVOLUTION.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF EARTH SCIENCES PROVIDED BY NORMAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDY PROGRAMS

THE CONTENTS OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF GEOSCIENCES COURSE ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO MODULES:
FUNDAMENTALS OF GEOLOGY AND GEOMORPHOLOGY, EACH OF WHICH TAKES 48 HOURS (6 CFU) BETWEEN LECTURES AND EXERCISES.
THE FIRST MODULE, FUNDAMENTALS OF GEOLOGY, IS FOCUSED ON PRESENTING THE MAIN PROBLEMS OF EARTH SCIENCES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE DYNAMICS OF PLANET EARTH.
THE TEACHING COVERS THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

-ACTITUDE OF THE STRATA AND DISCONTINUITES (4H)
THE SECOND MODULE, GEOMORPHOLOGY, DEALS WITH THE EXOGENOUS ASPECTS OF LANDFORM SHAPING. IN PARTICULAR, TOPICS WILL COVER, IN GENERAL, LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS, THE IDENTIFICATION OF BASIC GEOMORPHIC FORMS AND THE GEOMORPHIC PROCESSES THAT GENERATED THEM UNDER THE ACTION OF CLIMATE AND TECTONICS, IN PARTICULAR.
THE MODULE, BASED ON THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED FROM THE GEOLOGY MODULE, ADDRESSES THE FOLLOWING ISSUES:

MORPHOSELECTION PROCESSES AND LITHO-STRUCTURAL FORMS (3 H):
3.FORMS AND PROCESSES RELATED TO FLOWING WATERS (13/40 H);
EROSION FORMS AND PROCESSES (3 H)
FLUVIAL FORMS AND PROCESSES (10 H)
4. GRAVITY-RELATED FORMS AND PROCESSES (5/40 H);

-READING AND INTERPRETATION OF IMAGES AND TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS IN GEOMORPHOLOGICAL TERMS (8 H):
- DRAWING OF TOPOGRAPHIC PROFILES (2)
- RIVER BASIN DELIMITATION AND PARAMETERIZATION (2H);
Teaching Methods
THE LESSON CONSISTS OF 80-HOUR FRONTAL LESSONS (10 CFUS), WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE AID OF PROJECTIONS; PRACTICAL LABORATORY EXERCISES AND EXCURSIONS FOR 24 HOURS (2 CFUS) ARE ALSO PROVIDED.
THE FREQUENCY OF CLASSROOM LESSONS AND LABORATORY EXERCISES IS COMPULSORY. TO QUALIFY FOR THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE TUITION HOURS. THE ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION MODE IS ANNOUNCED BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EVALUATION EXAM WITH RATING IN THIRTHY POINTS. THE EXAM INVOLVES TWO ORAL TESTS, ONE FOR EACH MODULE.
THE ORAL TESTS CONSIST OF AN INTERVIEW WITH A DURATION OF NOT MORE THAN ONE HOUR, WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE TEACHING PROGRAM AND ARE DESIGNED TO ASCERTAIN THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT, AS WELL AS TO VERIFY THE EXPOSURE CAPACITY USING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE ABILITY TO ORGANIZE THE EXHIBITION ON THE SAME SUBJECTS WITH THEORETICAL CONTENT.
THE FINAL VOTE GENERALLY COMES FROM THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TRIALS.
THE MINIMUM MARK FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30 FOR EACH OF THE TESTS, AND IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A LIMITED KNOWLEDGE, respectively, of GEOLOGY AND GEOMORPHOLOGY.
THE MAXIMUM MARK (30/30) IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE, respectively, of GEOLOGY AND GEOMORPHOLOGY.
PRAISE MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM GRADE OF 30/30 AND WHO DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR OWN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN LESSONS.
