Objectives
OBTAIN ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE ON THE BASICS OF PHYSICAL SYSTEMS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCTION. ACQUIRE THE TECHNICAL SKILLS ON THE GENERATION OF ENERGY FROM SOLAR, WIND AND GEOTHERMAL SOURCES. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ASSESS THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE VARIOUS SYSTEMS OF ENERGY PRODUCTION IN REFERENCE TO SPECIFIC SITUATIONS, INCLUDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF RENEWABLE.
Prerequisites
CLASSICAL PHYSICS: MECHANICS, THERMODYNAMICS, ELECTROMAGNETISM. GEOPHYSICS: CRUSTAL STRUCTURE,
ROCKS PROPERTIES.

THE COURSE PROVIDES THE THEORETICAL BASIS AND PRACTICES OF THE MAIN PROCESSES IN RENEWABLE ENERGY FIELD (SOLAR,
WIND, GEOTHERMAL), WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF THE RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION.

THE COURSE INCLUDES 48H (6CFU) OF CLASS LESSONS

LECTURER SUBJECTS

1. SOURCE AND SOLAR SPECTRUM, LIGHT MATTER INTERACTION, CONVERSION OF ENERGY, THERMODYNAMIC SOLAR AND PHOTOVOLTAIC, SOLAR PANELS, CONVERSION EFFICIENCY.
2. THERMAL PROPERTIES OF ROCKS, HEAT TRANSFER, GEOTHERMAL GRADIENT, RESEARCH AND EXPLORATION OF GEOTHERMAL FIELDS, HIGH, MEDIUM AND LOW ENTHALPY SYSTEMS, SYSTEMS HOT DRY ROCKS SYSTEMS, HYDROFRACTURING, GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMPS, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.
3. WIND ANALYSIS AND BEAUFORT SCALE, WEIBULL DISTRIBUTION, ANEMOMETRY, WIND ENERGY: BASICS OF FLUID MECHANICS, BETZ LAW, WIND TURBINE: CLASSIFICATION AND PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION, WIND ENERGY AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS.

THE ATTENDANCE OF THE LESSONS IN THE CLASSROOM IS NOT OBLIGATORY but it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Verification of learning
THE LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED GETTING THROUGH AN ORAL EXAMINATION. THE ORAL TEST (ABOUT 30MIN) IS FINALIZED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING REACHED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM AND THE VERIFICATION OF CAPABILITY ON THE RENEWABLE ENERGY AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS. ORAL TEST WILL VERIFY THE COMMUNICATION CAPACITY WITH LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF EXPOSURE.
