Objectives
The course, completing the historical training of the educator for children, intends to provide general knowledge on the evolution of societies (in particular Italian and European) in the most recent age as well as specific insights into those critical points and conflicts of contemporary social life that can also affect the educational dimension.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTANDING: to know the historical processes of change that have affected Western society and to learn the specific historiographical categories that enable them to be analysed.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: to be able to link the historical processes studied with the phenomena of contemporary society, allowing a more careful and reasoned analysis, capable of helping reflection on the specific problems of education.

THE COURSE OF SOCIAL HISTORY OF THE CONTEMPORARY AGE WILL FOCUS ON THE HISTORY OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE COURSE AIMS AT ANALYSING THE SOCIAL PHENOMENA THAT HAVE AFFECTED MANKIND DURING LAST CENTURY, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE DIFFERENCES AMONG THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS AND TO THE NON-SYNCHRONIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOCIAL CHANGES.
SOCIAL HISTORY WILL BE CONNECTED TO THE POLITICAL, CULTURAL, ECONOMIC PHENOMENA, WHICH ARE INTEGRAL PART OF THE PROGRAMME.
THE SPECIAL PART WILL FOCUS ON THE HISTORY OF THE YOUTH MOVEMENTS AND, PARTICULARLY, TO THE ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE YOUTH DURING THE FASCIST VENTENNIO.

•EUROPE AND THE WORLD IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY: FROM THE BELLE ÉPOQUE TO THE WORLD WAR I (4 HOURS)
•THE INTERWAR PERIOD: TOTALITARIANISMS AND DEMOCRACIES (4 HOURS)
•THE POST-WAR PERIOD: COLD WAR, SOCIAL CHANGE, INDEPENDENCE OF THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES (4 HOURS)
•RECENT YEARS: THE COLLAPSE OF THE BERLIN WALL AND THE “UNIPOLAR” WORLD AFTER THE COLD WAR (4 HOURS)
•THE CASE OF ITALY: FASCIST REGIME, THE “CIVIL COLD WAR”, THE SO CALLED “SECOND REPUBLIC” (8 HOURS)
•SPECIAL PART: HISTORY OF THE YOUTH, THE YOUTH MOVEMENTS OF THE TOTALITARIAN COUNTRIES, THE SPECIFIC CASE OF THE FASCI GIOVANILI DI COMBATTIMENTO (1930-1937) (12 HOURS)
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE PROVIDES FOR 36 HOURS OF TEACHING (6 CFU), WITH THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:
- LESSONS ON WIDE SUBJECTS, FOLLOLWED BY DISCUSSION WITH THE STUDENTS;
- READING OF TEXTS, WITH ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION OF THEIR CONTENTS;
- PROJECTION OF AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIAL
Verification of learning
ORAL TEST ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE . THE FINAL MARK (MIN. 18, MAX 30, EVENTUALLY CUM LAUDE) IS DETERMINED BY THE VALUE OF THE PERFORMANCE FOR THESE DIMENSIONS OF ORAL EXPOSITION: MASTERY OF CONTENTS, APPROPRIATENESS OF DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REFERENCES, CLARITY OF EXPOSITION AND MASTERY OF SPECIALISED LANGUAGE.
