Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO ENCOURAGE REFLECTION ON THE POLITICAL, INSTITUTIONAL, SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS ASPECTS THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HISTORY OF SOUTHERN ITALY BEFORE THE ITALIAN UNIFICATION, IN A CONTEXT OF CONTEXTUALIZATION AND COMPARISON WITH THE EUROPEAN HISTORY.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

- KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
TO KNOW THE HISTORICAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF THE PECULIARITIES OF THE SOUTHERN ITALIAN TERRITORY AS A PART OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION, ALSO WITH A VIEW TO ASSESSING THE CRITICAL ASPECTS, FROM A LONG-TERM PERSPECTIVE, OF THE HISTORY OF SOUTHERN ITALY.

- ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
TO KNOW HOW TO INTEGRATE THE PECULIAR ASPECTS OF TODAY’S ITALIAN SOUTHERN SOCIETY, INCLUDING THOSE THAT INVOLVE PROCESSES OF MARGINALIZATION AND EXCLUSION, WITHIN THE WIDER HISTORY OF SOUTHERN ITALY.

Prerequisites
THE TEACHING HAS NO OTHER REQUISITE, IF NOT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THOSE BASIC CONTENTS WHICH ARE NORMALLY TRANSMITTED BY THE PROGRAMS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL IN THIS FIELD OF STUDIES.

IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EDUCATIONAL OFFER, THIS TEACHING AIMS TO LEAD STUDENTS TO CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THE POLITICAL, INSTITUTIONAL, SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS ASPECTS THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HISTORY OF SOUTHERN ITALY.

1) THE BIRTH OF THE KINGDOM AND THE NORMAN HERITAGE.
2) ANGEVINS AND ARAGONESE
3) THE SPANISH VICE-KINGDOM
4) THE AUSTRIAN VICE-KINGDOM
5) THE BOURBON KINGDOM
6) THE NAPOLEONIC AGE AND THE FRENCH "DECENNIO".
7) THE TWO SICILIES AND THE FALL OF THE KINGDOM

THE CONTENTS OF THE TEACHING CAN BE FOUND ALSO IN THE HANDBOOKS.
Teaching Methods
THIS TEACHING USES THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:

- LESSONS WITH WIDE CONTENTS, WITH A FINAL DISCUSSION ON THE CENTRAL TOPICS OF THE LESSON.

- LESSONS TRANSMITTING MORE APPLICATIVE KNOWLEDGES AND WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY EXERCISES AND PROBLEMS ON WHICH THE CLASS WORKS IN ORDER TO FIND SOLUTIONS.

- LECTURES BASED ON TEXTS, WITH THEIR ANALYSIS AND THE DISCUSSION BY THE WHOLE CLASS
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO VERIFY THE STUDENT’S PREPARATION AND THE SUITABILITY TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT IN THE FIELD OF MODERN HISTORY. DURING THE INTERVIEW WILL BE EVALUATED THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN A CLEAR AND UNAMBIGUOUS KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL ACQUIRED.
