Objectives
The course covers the development of the international community and of its core principles to develop an understanding of international law as a horizontal system of co-equal nations. In particular, the program includes the sources of international law, specific norms, the means of dispute settlement, the issue of enforcement.
The course aims at enhance students’ capabilities to analyze and critically interpret, and therefore apply their knowledge to specific issues.

THE ORIGIN OF THE CURRENT INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AND ITS DEVELOPMENT FORM THE PEACE OF WESTPHALIA. THE SOURCES OF INTERNATIONAL LAW. SUBJECTS OF INTERNATIONAL LAW. NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND ITS LIMITS. INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COMPLIANCE.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and seminars; laboratories on case-law studies
Verification of learning
The learning outcomes will mainly be assessed through the final exam which involves an assessment during the course and a final oral exam to evaluate the students' ability to coordinate the various themes studied analytically during the programme, and capabilities to apply their learning to specific issues.
