Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF ECONOMIC SOCIOLOGY FROM THE EARLY THEORETICAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE CLASSICAL AUTHORS (EXAMPLE MARX, WEBER) TO THOSE PROVIDED BY AUTHORS OF OTHERS DISCIPLINES (EXAMPLE POLANYI, SCHUMPETER). THE THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS OF DEPARTURE ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE KEY ISSUES THAT SOCIOLOGY FACES IN THE LIGHT OF THE EVENTS OF CONTEMPORARY CAPITALISM, FOR EXAMPLE SUCH AS OF THE ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE LABOUR MARKET AND ITS IMPACT ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMPLOYMENT AND UNEMPLOYMENT.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

The course aims to present the student with the main sources of investigation for the study of the most relevant issues that are traditionally the subject of the discipline. In this regard, for example, we will make frequent use of the ISTAT publications and related databases as regards different research objects as the business system, the labour market, the welfare system, etc.. The use of statistical sources and of others sources will be necessary in order to better understand the nature of the problems under investigation by the discipline.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT

The student will develop an appropriate critical sense in relation to the themes of the course in particular through the ability to observe the relevance of the phenomena investigated in their contemporary manifestation. Concepts, theories and use of statistical sources must be utilized as useful tools for self-reflection although it will be recommended the debate to the level of group.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

On the occasion of the written exams at student will be asked to report periodically with clear concepts as far learned. Depending on availability, may be found the ability to build small working groups on specific topics of the course.

LEARNING ABILITY

The knowledge of learning skills will be evaluated through the intermediate tests (with the subsequent discussion of the results in the classroom) and individual meetings during the work out course in order to understand the problems associated with the individual student's learning.

Contents
The course addresses the key issues of the relationship between economy and society. The course provides the basic tools, terminology and concepts, to deal with the study of socio-economic relations, it refers to the traditional sociological approaches to the study of the factors structuring and regulation of the economy, with a review of the most recent critical developments; an analysis of the processes of construction of the different economic regimes to arrive at a description of the main contemporary issues related to the production and employment. During the course, you will make frequent empirical reference to the Italian case, as it has evolved in recent decades, and in particular at issue of the South Italy with systematic comparisons with the international and European context in particular.
Teaching Methods
Lectures will be alternated periodically by interventions seminars with academics or other experts on specific subjects of interest to the course.
When necessary, will be used power point presentations and visits of economic sites of interest for the discipline.
In the final part of the course the teacher will promote moments of reflection on the topics covered so far or of others who have attracted the interest of the students.
Verification of learning
The mode of Assessment will be based on intermediate tests very similar to the final examination.
The intermediate test as the final test will be based on open-ended questions (in a maximum of 10) containing more interrogatives that may concern: the answer to a question of a theoretical nature, the answer interpretative analysis of a phenomenon much as reported in the literature; the answer to a question of comment of a graph or a table.
Only for those who have passed a minimum score there is the possibility to access the oral exam in order to improve the evaluation, but they may also accept the vote assigned to them. For those who have not achieved a minimum score enough the examination must be repeated again.
