THE COURSE IS IN TWO MODULES: THE FIRST PROVIDES DEFINITIONS, EMPIRICAL INFORMATIONS, AND THEORETICAL MODELS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THE DEVELOPMENT PATH OF AN ECONOMY. THE FOCUS IS ON THE ITALIAN CAPITALISM. THE SECOND PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE FRAMEWORK TO EXPLAIN THE EVOLUTION OF THE POLITICAL DEBATE ON THE “MEZZOGIORNO”, AND THE POLICIES DESIGNED AND IMPLEMENTED TO COMBAT THE DUALISM IN ITALY FROM ’50 (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING). STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THESE TOOLS TO DECODIFY BOTH THE SOURCES OF DEVELOPMENT DIFFERENTIALS AND THE HINDRANCES TO AN EFFECTIVE POLICY-MAKING (APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING), AND TO COMPARE THE DIFFERENT PARADIGMS AND ASSESS THE EVOLUTION OF THE POLICY MAKING AND THE INSTITUTIONAL SYSTEM IN THE MEZZOGIORNO (MAKING JUDGMENTS). STUDENTS WILL LEARN HOW TO EFFECTIVELY ORGANIZE IDEAS AND, IN PARTICULAR, TO EXPLAIN WITH APPROPRIATE ARGUMENTS BOTH FUNDAMENTAL THEORETICAL ISSUES AND CASES ON LOCAL DEVELOPMENT (COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS). STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO CONNECT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCES OF THIS COURSE WITH THOSE ACQUIRED IN MORE SIMILAR COURSES AND WILL HAVE AN METHOD TO COLLECT DATA AND BIBLIOGRAPHY (LEARNING SKILLS). |
