THE COURSE CONCERNS TWO IMPORTANT ISSUES OF EUROPEAN HISTORY: 1) AN EXCURSUS ON THE RIGHTS OF MEN, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY AND ON THE EMPATHY AS INNOVATIVE RELATIONAL MODE, 2) A STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES BETWEEN THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH CENTURY AND THE TRANSITION FROM DETERMINISTIC VIEW AT THE HOLISTIC. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY IN THE AMERICAN DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF 1776 AND IN THE DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF MAN AND CITIZEN OF 1789 ELEMENTS OF COMMONALITY AND DIFFERENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE PARTICULARISTIC AND UNIVERSALISTIC PARADIGM. IN ADDITION, THE ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE WAY OF HISTORIOGRAPHY RELATED TO THE STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE ABILITY TO EXPAND THE KNOWLEDGE ON THE MAJOR BATTLES FOR THE ACQUISITION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. THE ABILITY TO MODULATE A POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY INTERSECTED WITH THE INTELLECTUAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES OF A SCIENTIFIC EXPERT WHO LIVED BETWEEN THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH CENTURIES. JUDGEMENT AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT SHOULD HAVE A GOOD CRITICAL THINKING FOR TO ANALYZE THE POLITICAL AND LITERARY DOCUMENTS FROM THE PHILOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL POINT OF VIEW. THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY HAVE ACQUIRED A PARTICIPATORY APPROACH TO THE STUDY AND PERSONAL INVESTIGATION OF THE ISSUES ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE ABILITY TO ILLUSTRATE CRITICALLY, WITH THE TYPICAL LANGUAGE OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEMS ADDRESSED. LEARNING SKILLS THE ABILITY TO CONNECT THE PROBLEMS ACQUIRED IN THE HISTORICAL CONTEXTS OF REFERENCE, ESPECIALLY USING THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED IN EARLY MODERN HISTORY. |

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS. 1) A HISTORY OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. THIS FIRST PART IS REQUIRED FOR THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING ISSUES: - THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LITERATURE AND THE CHANGE OF THE PERCEPTIONS IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. - THE CONTRIBUTION OF ROUSSEAU AND RICHARDSON AND THEIR EPISTOLARY NOVELS. - THE WOMAN AND THE RIGHTS IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. - THE EMPATHY AS AN INTERPRETIVE SYSTEM OF HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS. - THE TORTURE, THE DEATH PENALTY AND THE INVIOLABILITY OF THE BODY. - THE TRAITÉ SUR LA TOLERANCE OF VOLTAIRE AND DEI DELITTI E DELLE PENE OF BECCARIA. - THE AMERICAN DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF 1776. - THE DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF MAN AND CITIZEN OF 1789. - THE CONDITIONS OF RELIGIOUS MINORITIES, SLAVES AND WOMEN AFTER THE TWO STATEMENTS. - THE DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS OF 1948. 2) A HISTORY OF ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES BETWEEN THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH CENTURIES. THIS SECOND PART IS INTENDED TO LEARNING THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: - THE MAIN WAYS OF HISTORIOGRAPHY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. - THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DETERMINISTIC VIEW AND THE HOLISTIC OR SYSTEMIC. - THE CULTURAL AND POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY OF TEODORO MONTICELLI. - CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TEXT L’ECONOMIA DELLE ACQUE (1820) OF MONTICELLI. - THE DIFFERENT APPROACH TO ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES BETWEEN MONTICELLI AND CARLO AFAN DE RIVERA. |
