Course Description
The master’s degree in Linguistics and Italian Language Teaching in an International Context is a dual institutional degree affiliated with l'Universität des Saarlandes (Germany) with a joint degree issued from both the Italian and the German universities.
The degree course is for two years and is awarded after achieving 120 credits. The entire first year takes place at the University of Salerno while the second year, which also comprises a significant period of internship, takes place at l'Universität des Saarlandes.
There are a limited number of admissions to the degree and all teaching is carried out entirely in Italian. Therefore, for students who are not Italian mother tongue, a B2 level of Italian is required along with the other curricular prerequisites.
The degree is designed around two main fundamental disciplinary pathways: linguistics and Italian language teaching, leading to a professionalising standard of course, which differentiates it from the other LM-14 courses, particularly that of Modern Philology on offer at Salerno.
The degree prepares graduates to be able to work in the teaching sector, particularly that of the promotion of Italian as a foreign language, as a second language and as a vehicular language within an Italo-Germanic context. Furthermore, graduates develop skills in research and culture promotion with a particular interest in relations between Italy and Germany.
Graduates are prepared to be teachers of Italian as a foreign language as well as cultural mediators who are able to work within a variety of European contexts where promotion, management, organisation and communicating the Italian language and culture is vital.
The master’s degree takes place at the Humanities Department at the University of Salerno at its Fisciano campus and at Philosophische Fakultät in Saarbrücken.
