Final Examination Regulations – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
The final examination for the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science consists of the preparation, writing, and discussion of a thesis developed within one of the program’s disciplines, on a topic agreed upon by the student and a faculty member (Supervisor), who guides the student throughout this activity.
The thesis must be developed with a high degree of autonomy and include significant original contributions, which may be theoretical, methodological, design-oriented, or implementation-based. The thesis may also include a project carried out in collaboration with companies or external organizations, according to guidelines set by the Degree Program Council.
The thesis is accompanied by a multimedia presentation, discussed by the candidate during the final exam (maximum presentation time: 7 minutes).
Final Grade
The final exam is graded out of 110. The committee may unanimously award honors (“with distinction”).
The final grade is calculated as the sum of:
- the student’s starting score, obtained by converting the weighted average of exam grades into a scale out of 110 (rounded down if the first decimal is 0–4, up if 5–9), excluding pass/fail assessments
- the points awarded by the committee during the final evaluation
The committee may award up to a maximum of 10 points, distributed as follows:
a) Quality of the thesis and final discussion: 0–4 points
(up to 3 points upon supervisor’s request + 1 point at the committee’s discretion)
b) Timing and method of credit acquisition: 0–6 points, as follows:
- 2 points if the student graduates on time
- 1 point if graduating within the first year beyond the standard duration
- 2 points for a starting score ≥ 100; 1 point for a starting score ≥ 95
- 1 point for successful participation (with credits earned) in an internationalization program
- 1 point for completing an external internship with companies or institutions affiliated with the Department
For students under the former “ex 509” system and University Diploma programs, previous grading rules still apply.
Only students who have passed their final exam at least 30 days before the graduation session are eligible to participate.
