Educational goals
The academic goal of the PhD program in Economics and Policy Analysis is to prepare highly skilled professionals able to experiment new research methods and to combine economic, legal, statistical and business skills. The organization of the program in curricula aims to reach these objectives.
The objectives of the course are:
acquire the theoretical foundations and the methodological knowledge to carry out research activities in the field of Economics and Policy Analysis;
foster the ability to interact with the national and international research community and with institutions involved in local development by writing and monitoring research projects;
reach appropriate expertise in the use of specialized software for the implementation of theoretical and quantitative analysis techniques;
The curricula of the PhD program intend to prepare:
professionals capable of combining various analytical elements with the evaluation of impact and performance of public policies, services and markets;
skills in legal disciplines traditionally related to different disciplinary sectors, capable to effectively interact with economists and statisticians;
profiles able to use the most advanced analytical and quantitative techniques in order to evaluate the functioning and performance of private companies, services and markets;
highly qualified profiles with specialized marketing skills useful for the management of private companies and non-profit organizations.
Expected employment and professional opportunities The members of the Academic Board are involved in international research and business networks. This creates concrete possibilities for PhD graduates to carry out research activities in the various fields of study as well as professional opportunities also in the context of institutions not specifically oriented to research (ministries, trade associations, ...). Career outcomes:• experts on labor and financial markets performance and related services;• profiles who develop and apply the most advanced statistical techniques to the analysis of complex systems and big data;• specialists in legal disciplines traditionally related to different economic sectors, and therefore with the potential to be included in the labor market with greater flexibility;• experts in the analysis of governance and business management, with particular attention to the internal and external audits of marketing and communication.
Law and Global Market - prof. Marcello D'Ambrosio
The main objective of the curriculum is to provide PhD students with the skills needed to conduct high-quality research in universities and in public or private institutions. Beyond the indications coming from the labor and professions markets, there is the need of highly qualified young researchers and professionals who, with methodological awareness and sensitivity to the European level, can experiment new research methods aimed at combining legal with economic data and developing competences in legal disciplines traditionally related to different economic-disciplinary sectors (IUS / 01, IUS / 04, IUS / 07, IUS / 09, IUS / 10 , IUS / 12, IUS / 13).Thanks to the so acquired skills, they have the potential to be integrated into the labor market with greater flexibility. From this point of view, research activity, within the curriculum, aims to avoid a rigid classification in a single sector of the legal sciences (as it normally happens for other doctoral programs), in order to train modern jurists able to conduct both research and professional consulting in a highly interdisciplinary way and with particular attention to the topics of European law.
Public Sector Economics - prof. Dell'Anno Roberto
The educational objectives of the curriculum in Economia del Settore Pubblico imply primarily that the PhDs are put in contact with the main analytical techniques in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods. PhD students strengthen the knowledge they have acquired during university courses and are provided with a consistent analytical toolkit. Furthermore, the PhDs acquire appropriate competence in the use of the IT supports of theoretical and quantitative analysis techniques, and become able to interact appropriately with the research community both in Italy and abroad. PhDs are also helped to successfully integrate into public or private research facilities, including institutions that are not eminently devoted to research (ministries, professional and trade associations, ...). Particular attention has traditionally been devoted to foster the ability to interact with institutions involved in local development (also through the preparation and monitoring of research projects).
Marketing Management - prof. Alfonso Siano
This curriculum is designed to train young researchers to advance and disseminate knowledge in the field of marketing management, in a world characterized by technological and social changes which are deeply changing management in the business environment.
In this perspective, the course of study aims to stimulate research in the field of new lines of investigation, including: CSR/sustainability communication, inbound marketing, content marketing, brand reputation, advocacy marketing, influencer marketing.
Statistical Methods - prof. Pietro Coretto
The course of study aims to empower PhD students to reach an advanced preparation in statistical disciplines in order to conduct research activities and assume positions of responsibility in the processes based on the elaboration of information and on decision making under conditions of uncertainty. The educational objectives are therefore aimed to broaden the knowledge, and strengthen the skills in the area of statistical inference in the parametric and non-parametric fields, of development and estimation of statistical models with particular reference to the study of dynamic phenomena; of selection and classification methods, computer intensive techniques also aimed at the analysis of high-dimensional data, big data and evaluation of forecasts and risk management.
