The IETIS PhD program, coordinated by prof. Diego Barletta, trains highly qualified experts in sustainability and technological innovation for industry, offering a multidisciplinary path that integrates advanced research and practical applications. The program is supported by the Department of Industrial Engineering, which has long been committed to research and education in these fields.

The course also contributes to the objectives of the Department of Excellence, promoting internationalization and collaboration with companies to enhance postgraduate education.

Research Areas

The program focuses on three key research areas:

• Advanced Materials and Industrial Symbiosis – Development of structural and functional materials for energy and environmental sustainability, with applications in manufacturing, biotechnology, and nanotechnology.
• Sustainable Energy – Optimization of energy systems, with a focus on efficiency, renewable sources, and the reduction of primary energy consumption.
• Enabling Technologies for Industry 4.0 – Design of electronic devices, sensors, and digital systems for applications in transportation, energy, and smart manufacturing, leveraging virtualization and innovative technologies.

The PhD program bridges research and industry, equipping students with the skills to tackle sustainability challenges through cutting-edge technological solutions.
