Admission Requirements for Academic Year 2025-26
To be admitted to the Master’s Degree program, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification recognized as suitable, and meet specific curricular requirements as well as demonstrate adequate personal preparation.

  • Students holding a Bachelor’s degree in Class L-11 (ex DM 270) obtained at the University of Salerno (continuity degree) with a grade of 100 or higher may enroll directly in this Master’s program without submitting any application.

  • Students holding the same degree but with a grade below 100 must submit an application for evaluation of their personal preparation (point B).

  • Graduates from the University of Salerno with a Bachelor’s degree in "Languages and Cultural Models of the West" (student ID starting with 449), regardless of grade, and students holding a different degree than L-11 must submit an application for evaluation of both curricular requirements and personal preparation (points A and B), indicating the chosen Master's curriculum.

  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from another university with a grade of 100 or higher must apply for evaluation of curricular requirements only, indicating the chosen Master’s curriculum and the languages to be studied (or the language in the monolingual curriculum).

  • Students with a Bachelor's degree from another university with a grade below 100 must apply for evaluation of both curricular requirements and personal preparation (points A and B), indicating the chosen Master’s curriculum and the foreign languages to be studied (or the language in the monolingual curriculum).

Applications for evaluation of curricular requirements and/or verification of personal preparation must be submitted using the specific form, indicating the chosen curriculum and languages, via email to the student careers office at carrierestudenti.dipsum@unisa.it. The office will then add the payment slip for the stamp duty in the "payments" section of the reserved area.

Evaluation dates:

  • October 2, 2025 (applications including stamp duty must be submitted by 2:00 PM on September 25, 2025)

  • November 27, 2025 (applications including stamp duty must be submitted by 2:00 PM on November 24, 2025)

  • February 25, 2026 (applications including stamp duty must be submitted by 2:00 PM on February 23, 2026)

The evaluation outcome will be communicated by email.

Applications for enrollment in Master’s Degree programs (two-year duration) must be submitted online from July 15, 2025, to March 2, 2026, exclusively via email at carrierestudenti.dipsum@unisa.it. Enrollment depends on possession of the required course requisites.

Eligible students must register online for the Master’s Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures at https://esse3web.unisa.it/Home.do. Those who already have login credentials should log in and register under "Assessment Test." The careers office will verify the evaluation request and unlock the application in the ESSE3 system to allow online enrollment (user area ESSE3 → enrollment). Students without credentials must register in the university system following instructions at https://web.unisa.it/didattica/immatricolazioni/informazioni.

In accordance with Decree-Law no. 76 of July 16, 2020 (Simplification Decree), converted with amendments by Law no. 120 of September 11, 2020, from February 28, 2021, identification and access to ESSE3 can only be performed with digital SPID credentials (Public System of Digital Identity).

Only students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures at the University of Salerno who have earned at least 150 credits by September 30, 2025, may request early attendance of first-semester Master’s courses before graduation. Those graduating by the November 2025 session and enrolling by December 2025 may also take exams in the first session.

Requests must be sent by email to the DIPSUM academic office at didattica.dipsum@unisa.it using the form “Authorization Request to Attend First Semester Courses (Two-year Master’s Degree)”.


Foreign EU and Non-EU Students
To enroll in the Master’s Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (LM-37), foreign students must hold a qualification from a higher education institution, issued by the competent university, including transcripts and exam syllabi. A Diploma Supplement can also serve as proof where applicable.

The LM-37 program reserves 10 places for non-EU international students residing abroad. There are no numerical limits for EU citizens regardless of residence.

Non-EU students must pre-register on the UNIVERSITALY portal following the indicated procedures.

Admission also requires: A) specific curricular requirements (point A); B) adequate personal preparation verified by an interview on previous academic experience.

Italian language proficiency at level B2 (CEFR) is required. For non-EU students, proficiency is verified annually by the University Language Center. EU students can prove B2 either by international certification or by taking a test in early September after requesting it via carrierestudenti.dipsum@unisa.it.

The University Language Center offers Italian language courses for students lacking adequate skills (https://www.cla.unisa.it/corsi/italianol2).

No preparatory enrollment courses are provided, but students may enroll in single courses to acquire credits needed for admission (https://web.unisa.it/didattica/segreteria/servizi?servizio=6).

Disabled foreign students can access services provided by the Disability and Specific Learning Disorders Office, coordinated by the Rector’s Delegate for Disability (https://www.disabilidsa.unisa.it/contatti).


Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Disorders (DSA)
Students with disabilities or learning disorders can benefit from various services offered by the Disability and Specific Learning Disorders Service, established under laws 17/99 and 170/2010, part of the Office for the Right to Study and coordinated by the Rector’s Delegate for Disability. Services include individual needs assessments, assistance during access tests, financial benefits, and campus accessibility information.

Foreign Students with EU and non-EU Nationalities

To enrol in the Master’s degree course in Modern Languages and Literatures (LM37), foreign students (EU and non-EU citizens) must have a degree issued by a higher education institution recognised in the awarding country with a transcript of the exams as well as the module program for each exam. The Supplement Diploma is considered valid, where applicable.

The Master’s degree course in Modern Languages and Literatures (LM37) has five positions for non-EU citizens with residence abroad. There are no restrictions for Eu citizens regardless of their place of residence.

Non- EU students who are interested in the Master’s degree course have to sign a pre-enrolment registration from UNIVERSIALY following instructions available on the portal.

Access to the Master’s degree requires: A) Curricular requirements as listed in point A; B) a personal level of competence assessed via an interview to verify the previous academic experience of candidates.

A proficiency B2 level (in compliance to the Common European Framework of References) in Italian is mandatory.

Non-EU students’ language proficiency will be tested at the University Language Centre.

EU students will be able to prove their level of language proficiency either by presenting an International Language Certificate of Proficiency or by taking a test during week 1 in September, prior to a request to the Career Office: carrierestudenti.dipsum@unisa.it

The University Language Centre offers Italian language courses for students without adequate level of proficiency (https://www.cla.unisa.it/corsi/italianol2 ).

The Master’s degree course does not have pre-registration courses to achieve curricular requirements. However, there is the possibility to subscribe to single courses in order to gain ECTS that are necessary for enrolment. (https://web.unisa.it/didattica/segreteria/servizi?servizio=6 )

Students with Disabilities and Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD): welcoming and support

Students with disabilities or SLD can benefit from the many services offered by the Disabilities and Special Learning Needs Office, (Law 17/99 and 170/2010), part of the Students’ Right to Study Office coordinated by the Rector’s delegate for disabilities. The office guarantees individual face-to face or online interviews for students’needs analysis; a team of experts informs and advices students on specific services available, on the possibility to receive support during entry tests and on economic advantages and easy access to the university areas. Giovanna Pace is the department coordinator of these servives (gpace@unisa.it).

Candidates with certification of disability, according to Law no. 104 of 1992, or with a diagnosis of SLD , according to Law 170 of 2010, can receive support during the entry test and benefit from balancing measures and means as well as additional time, prior to specific request. The use of any medical equipment requires authorization from the Students’ Right to Study Office. Universities are able to conditionally admit candidates with medical certificates to take the test, even if these are not updated due to limited NHS response, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and to postpone the presentation of the due documentation. Candidates’ SLD diagnosis cannot be older than three years or it should be issued after the candidates’ eighteenth’s birthday by the local health services or regional health service professionals. Candidates with disabilities or SLD must send an e-mail to the Students’ Right to Study Office (dirstu@unisa.it) with a specific assistance request with the appropriate documentation within 15 days before the date of the test.
