The Master’s Degree Program in Modern Languages and Literatures, which belongs to the Department of Humanities and is based at the University Campus of Fisciano, has a standard duration of two years. To obtain the degree, the student must acquire 120 ECTS credits. Part-time enrollment is also possible, in accordance with the rules established by the University.

The Degree Program (CdS) represents the continuation of the three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures.

Its aim is to develop advanced skills in one or two modern languages chosen among French, English, Russian, Spanish, and German, as well as in the literatures and cultures of European and American countries.

The Program is structured into four different educational pathways, each pursuing specific objectives:

  • Literatures and Literary Translation: acquisition of advanced philological, critical, and historical-literary skills through the study of literary texts in the chosen languages of specialization, along with the ability to design educational programs for the teaching of foreign literatures and for the interaction between language and literature teaching;

  • Linguistics and Language Teaching: acquisition of linguistic and methodological tools for research in the field of language studies and for the design of educational programs for the teaching of foreign languages (including Italian as a second language);

  • Languages for Local Resources and Economies: acquisition of the ability to apply linguistic, artistic, archival, and digital skills, particularly in the cultural and tourism sectors, and to use geo-economic, project design, and IT skills in relation to entrepreneurial dynamics oriented toward internationalization and international cooperation;

  • Modern Literatures and Cultures (Single-language pathway): acquisition of solid philological, critical, and historical-literary skills through the analysis of literary texts in the chosen language of specialization, together with the ability to design educational programs for the teaching of foreign literature and the integration of language and literature teaching.

During the course of study, students are encouraged to take advantage of the Erasmus program in order to gain practical experience in the use of the linguistic and cultural skills acquired.

The final examination of the Master’s Degree consists of a written thesis, which must demonstrate originality and is prepared under the supervision of a faculty member. Part of the defense is conducted in a foreign language.
