Educational Objectives
The Bachelor's Degree Program in Information Engineering for Digital Medicine aims to train graduates with a solid scientific foundation and a thorough command of the technical and scientific methods and principles of engineering. The program focuses on the development and application of information engineering technologies for creating systems and applications in the fields of digital medicine and, more broadly, the life sciences. Graduates in Information Engineering for Digital Medicine will be equipped to contribute to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of software applications for desktop and embedded systems, web platforms, and mobile devices in the digital medicine sector. These applications are designed for acquiring clinical and biomedical data from heterogeneous sources such as wearable sensors, biomedical sensors, clinical monitoring systems, and equipment, followed by subsequent data processing. Graduates will also be capable of analyzing, designing, implementing, configuring, and maintaining the hardware and software components of low- and medium-complexity healthcare information systems for hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, while adhering to data privacy and security regulations. The program spans three years and awards 180 ECTS credits. Admission is contingent upon a non-selective entrance test designed to assess the adequacy of the candidate's initial preparation. This test, the CISIA TOLC-I, consists of multiple-choice questions covering topics such as text comprehension, logic, mathematics, physics, and English. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge (knowing) and skills (knowing how to do) necessary to solve problems in the aforementioned fields. Most courses include laboratory-based experimental activities aimed at developing the students' analytical and design abilities. Additionally, the program requires an internship at accredited companies in the field. Seminars, industry presentations, and visits to relevant companies are also part of the curriculum. Upon earning their Bachelor's degree, graduates can either enter the workforce or pursue further studies in a Master's Degree Program.
An EXCELLENCE TRACK is offered to recognize and enhance the education of outstanding and motivated students interested in further exploration and cultural enrichment. This track includes additional educational activities beyond the standard curriculum, planned annually by the Academic Council. Some of these activities are conducted in collaboration with prominent national and international companies and may lead to the attainment of professional certifications. Participation in these activities is financially supported by the department. The natural progression from the Bachelor's Degree in Information Engineering is the Master's Degree in Information Engineering for Digital Medicine, which allows for further development of knowledge in the field and the completion of advanced design skills.
