The Data Science horizon in preventive and predictive biomedicine and the Covid-19 challenge

Abstract

Data Science for Biomedicine involves the analysis of databases resorting to algorithms for learning, managing and processing biomedical information. Machine Learning techniques constitute powerful tools for many applications ranging from epidemiological/clinical information to DNA/RNA sequencing and immunological phenotyping. In healthcare the application of advanced biostatistics and ML can enhance almost all stages of preventive and predictive medicine, including drug discovery processes. In such a framework, Covid-19 provided a unique challenge for the application of Data Science approaches in the research for protecting people from the pandemic outbreak. The seminar will present some of the recent research experience in the field of Data Science for healthcare.
