Scienze Biologiche Tutoring
The tutoring activities for students are organized by the Orientation and Placement Committee, which includes the following faculty members:
prof. Anna Marabotti (head of the Committee, referee for PLS and delegate of DCB for the Incoming Orientation activities)
prof. Lillà Lionetti (President of the Master Degree in Biology)
prof. Elizabeth A. Illingworth (Erasmus and Internationalization contact person)
prof. Consiglia Tedesco (referee for Help Teaching - OFA)
prof. Margherita De Rosa (referee for Tutoring)
prof. Daniela Guarnieri (referee for Placement)
prof. Maria Vivo
dr. Stefania Martucciello (supporting referee for PLS
The committee normally meets at the beginning of the first semester of the academic year to establish the activities to be carried out and assign the various tasks and timelines to the committee members who will be responsible for them, and at the beginning of the second semester to evaluate the actions carried out and plan those to be completed by the end of the year. For normal activities throughout the year, the head of the committe and the committee members communicate with each other via e-mail.
The specific activities for in-process tutoring carried out by the Bachelor Degree are as follows:
- Thanks to the financial support of the University, the Department of Chemistry and Biology "A. Zambelli," organizes activities to incoming students that include tutoring, integrated course work and remedial teaching in order to support students in classroom or laboratory exercises, for group teaching activities and for support to students with disabilities. Formative deficiency remediation activities (OFA) are developed with teaching support activities in parallel with the course work in Mathematics, while tutoring is reserved for teaching support activities relating to exercises and laboratory practicals of the various courses. Each year, the Orientation and Placement Committee identifies the support needed and the type of tutor (Master's or doctoral student) needed to support the activity and, based on the availability of funds, it plans the assignment of the tutors, the number of hours involved (congruent with the ECTS provided for the laboratory) and the possible need to duplicate the laboratory classes, favoring those that are attended by a greater number of students.
The Orientation and Placement Committee also evaluates the degree of satisfaction of students and the tutors themselves with respect to these support activities and plans activities for the following year. The evaluation is based upon feedback from the aforementioned questionnaires.
In addition, the CdS makes use of the activities of part-time students to support tutoring activities (before and after laboratory exercises), planning the activities and the hours devoted to them.
- The CdS also participates in the "Action Help Teaching-PRO3" programme aimed at the implementation of objectives regarding the improvement of the indicators identified in relation to students enrolling in the second year of the Courses of Study and aimed at students already enrolled in the first year of the various courses of study offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biology "A. Zambelli" and who have not accrued at least 40 CFU at the beginning of the second academic year. The Help Teaching action for the CdS in Biological Sciences makes it possible to organize remedial courses related to those teachings in which students statistically accrue fewer CFUs. The project allows students to take such remedial courses and take advantage of an additional examination session in November, in order to accrue additional CFUs. This activity takes place in concert with similar actions planned and put in place through the LSC's participation in the National Plan for Scientific Degrees (PLS) Project in Biology and Biotechnology.
