Matematica Track of Excellence
Starting from the academic year 2023/24, a Track of Excellence programme has been activated at the Master's Degree in Mathematics. Its purpose is:
- to enhance the master's students according to merit criteria;
- to enhance training through in-depth activities;
- to develop transversal skills such as critical thinking and the ability to work independently;
- to expand the ability to study, formalize and communicate on advanced topics in mathematics.
The path also represents a first approach to scientific research methodologies.
The Track of Excellence does not award training credits that can be used to obtain university degrees at the University of Salerno.
Each year, up to 4 students are admitted to the Track of Excellence, selected through a specific announcement among first-year master students. The annual call indicates the minimum access requirements.
The Track of Excellence is developed in 3 semesters, starting from the second semester of the first year and until the end of the second year. A tutor is assigned to each admitted student. At the beginning of the path, students and tutors establish a plan of training activities. The plan consists of 3 courses, one for each semesters, chosen from a list of courses made available by the Department (see below). Each course consists of:
- 6 hours of frontal lessons;
- 69 hours of individual study under the guidance of the course director and the tutor teacher:
- a final test at the end of the semester.
The annual call describes the requirements for continuing and completing the Track of Excellence. A bonus contribution of €500 is provided for each student who successfully completes the Track of Excellence.
Typically, the announcement is published by February and expires by the second week of March. The publication of the call is announced on the website and on the social channels of the DipMat.
