The visiting period for training and research activities in foreign Institutions is authorized by the PhD Board of Professors upon the proposal of the PhD student and his/her supervisor and is accompanied by the "Acceptance Letter" of the foreign host institution. The visiting period in foreign universities is mandatory to achieve the title of Doctor Europaeus.

Generally, the visiting research period is carried out between the 2nd and 3rd year of the PhD Programme.

Starting with the XXXVII Doctoral Cycle, the visiting research period in foreign universities becomes:- optional, but always strongly recommended for PhD students who benefit from University scholarships or are not-scholarship beneficiaries; - mandatory for at least 6 months in the case of PNRR-funded scholarships.
