Third Mission

Methods and Methodology in the Archeological and Art Historical Research Third Mission

The university's Third Mission is an initiative designed to facilitate enhanced interactions between academia and civil society. This is intended to enable a greater impact and social relevance to be achieved in research and teaching activities (https://web.unisa.it/terza-missione).

The PhD programme in Methods and Methodologies of Archaeological and Art-Historical Research is distinguished by its constant commitment to the territory, with the aim of disseminating research results not only within the academic community, but also outside it. Through the organisation of seminars, conferences and other events aimed at public and private bodies, associations and schools, the Doctorate encourages an active and constructive dialogue with society, contributing to the dissemination and enhancement of scientific and cultural heritage.

The Third Mission activities promoted by the Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences do not merely add to the two traditional missions, i.e. teaching and research, but complete them by focusing on the transfer of scientific, technological and cultural knowledge. As a result, doctoral students not only actively participate in dissemination initiatives, but often take a leading role in the dissemination of knowledge, even in non-academic contexts, making research more accessible and usable for society.

The objectives of the Third Mission are aligned with the PhD programme's intention to act as a bridge between academic knowledge and society, creating synergies that enable it to make a tangible contribution to local development and the promotion of knowledge as a shared resource and tool for collective social, cultural and economic growth.
