English Test

Nanotechnology and Physics for Sustainability English Test

The study plan for the Master's Degree Course in Science and Nanotechnology for Sustainability includes an English exam (6 CFU) to achieve level B2.

To achieve this level, a 60-hour language course (45 hours of classroom lessons and 15 hours of selfstudy) is provided at the University Language Center (CLA).

Exam procedure

Students must earn 6 credits by demonstrating adequate knowledge of the English language.

The tests will be held in 4 sessions (January, April, June, and October) according to the following procedures:

  • students must register through ESSE3 for the chosen exam session, within the deadlines indicated in the CLA calendar;
  • the Department will send the CLA the lists of students who have registered within the deadlines;
  • the CLA will prepare the test schedule, which will be published on its website;
  • at the end of the tests, the results will be sent to the President of the Teaching Council for the appropriate measures to be taken.

Students can register for the test to take the exam:

  • twice during the regular course of study (students on track);
  • once a year in each year of delay (students behind schedule).

The test is carried out using the Quick Placement Test (QPT), which takes place at the CLA.

The QPT is a computerized diagnostic test designed to assess the level of English language proficiency. The test takes about 30 minutes to complete and consists of about 30 multiple-choice questions designed to test listening, reading, and grammar skills. A demo of the test can be viewed at oxford english testing

The level required to pass the test is B2 (a score of at least 60 points).

Test Exemption and Recognition of Certified Skills

Students who have a certificate of English language knowledge are exempt from taking the course and passing the exam.

Certifications issued by certification agencies recognized under current legislation will be accepted as validation of the English test, provided that the certified level of knowledge is at least equal to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for language skills.

The request, accompanied by the original documentation, must be submitted to the Department's Career Office and will be evaluated by the relevant Teaching Council.

Self-study at the University Language Center

All University students can take advantage of the self-study service available at the CLA, which allows them to study foreign languages independently using the multimedia teaching materials available at the CLA. In the self-study laboratories, students can seek the help of qualified staff with whom they can agree on their independent study program.
