Enrollment Process

To enroll in the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Own a secondary school diploma or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad and recognized as valid by the University.
  • Take the mandatory evaluative admission test (TOLC-I), administered by the Inter-University Consortium for Integrated Access Systems (CISIA).
  • Register on the university’s student information system (ESSE3) to receive communications from the administration office.

Further details on the enrollment procedures can be found in the admissions section of the university website. For additional information, you can also contact tolcdiem@unisa.it.

The Admission Test (TOLC)

The TOLC (CISIA Online Test) is designed to evaluate your foundational knowledge. Upon completing the test, you will receive an overall score and detailed results for each of the four sections: verbal comprehension, logic, mathematics, and science. To prepare effectively, visit the official CISIA website, where you’ll find information on the TOLC-I content and practice exercises.

The TOLC-I sessions organized by the DIEM (Department of Information and Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics) are conducted in person at the Fisciano Campus. Details regarding the room and schedule will be provided during the booking process.

The available dates for the TOLC-I in 2024 are:

  • February 29, 2024
  • March 28, 2024
  • April 19, 2024
  • May 10 and May 24, 2024
  • July 9 and July 23, 2024
  • August 27, 28, 29, and 30, 2024
  • September 13 and/or 27, 2024

In addition to sessions organized by DIEM, you can take the TOLC-I at other accredited locations. Tests taken at any accredited center are valid for enrollment in all participating universities. Both in-person (TOLC@UNI) and remote (TOLC@CASA) modes are accepted. The TOLC-I can also be taken during the penultimate year of high school. The national calendar is available on the CISIA website.

Eligibility Criteria

Students can enroll in the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering without Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) if they meet one of the following criteria on the TOLC-I an overall score of at least 20/50 and a mathematics section score of at least 5, or an overall score of at least 16/50 and a mathematics section score of at least 8.

Students who do not meet these criteria will be assigned specific Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) in accordance with Article 6 of D.M. 270/2004. Most commonly, an OFA in Basic Mathematics will be required. This can be fulfilled by attending a preparatory Basic Mathematics course provided by the department, covering topics from the TOLC-I mathematics section. For broader deficiencies, other OFAs will be assigned, corresponding to the various sections of the TOLC-I.

Students who score less than 16/50 overall (excluding the English section) are advised not to enroll. If OFAs are not completed within three available sessions, the student will be blocked for one year and unable to take exams. This prevents the accumulation of the minimum credits needed to progress to the next year and forfeits any tuition fee discounts, even in the case of withdrawal or course changes. Furthermore, statistics show that only 15% of students in this range successfully complete all OFAs within the given timeframe due to the challenge of bridging these gaps.

The table below summarizes the required scores for enrollment:

Additional Educational Obligations (OFA)

The OFA (Additional Educational Obligations) are remedial measures assigned to students who do not meet the minimum scores on the TOLC-I. These must be fulfilled at the beginning of the first academic year before taking exams. The communication regarding the assignment of OFA and the procedures and timelines for their completion is sent to enrolled students via email by the Office "Teaching, Collegial Bodies, Advanced Training, and Careers" of the Department.

For students requiring an OFA in Basic Mathematics, DIEM organizes an intensive course in September, just before the start of regular first-year classes. In the second half of October, immediately after the closure of registrations, two additional courses are also offered: one in Basic Mathematics and one in Basic Physics.

To fulfill the OFA, students must pass a verification test conducted through CISIA’s dedicated platform for OFA recovery. Only the verification test managed by DIEM is recognized for this purpose. The first verification test will be held immediately after the Basic Mathematics OFA course. Students who pass this test can attend first-year classes without additional study burdens.

Those who fail the first verification test will have three additional opportunities between October and December. During this time, students may attend first-year classes but cannot take exams until the OFAs are completed.

For more information, including the schedule of courses and verification tests, refer to the document on OFA fulfillment procedures.
