Enrolling in Computer Engineering

Why Choose Computer Engineering?

Computer engineering permeates all sectors of modern life! Choosing to study Computer Engineering means facing new challenges and exploring ever-expanding fields (e.g., artificial intelligence, robotics, etc.). Its interdisciplinary training enables students to meet the ever-growing demands of the job market.

A computer engineer possesses the skills to design, develop, and manage highly complex IT systems. They are equipped to tackle new problems and build innovative solutions using the most modern technologies effectively.

Why Choose Computer Engineering at DIEM?

Excellence in Research

DIEM is ranked at the top of the latest rankings of Italian departments for research quality, published by the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research (MIUR), classifying it as an “Italian Department of Excellence.”

Internship Opportunities

DIEM requires students to complete an internship in sector-specific companies, providing them with advanced engineering skills.

Career Orientation

The program includes seminars with companies to inform students about professional profiles and career opportunities.

Academic Programs

Bachelor’s Degree

The program shapes modern computer engineers with a solid foundation in both methodology and technology across key areas of computer science.

In the third year, students can choose from three tracks:

  • Software
  • Systems
  • Networks

Master’s Degree

This program features a common core focusing on advanced skills in computer science and automation required for designing complex, innovative systems. Students can specialize in:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Robotics
  • Automation and Control Systems
  • Cybersecurity
  • Enterprise Software Architectures
  • IoT and Embedded Systems
  • Multimedia Systems and Applications

The Bachelor’s program provides students with design-focused skills through group projects, while the Master’s program includes a project-based and experimental thesis. Most students are encouraged to complete their Master’s thesis abroad at one of the partner universities.

Accreditation

The programs are accredited under the EUR-ACE®-ENAEE standard, ensuring alignment with job market requirements.

Study Organization

The academic year is divided into two semesters: October–December and March–May. The remaining months are reserved for exams. The exam schedule avoids overlaps, giving students sufficient time to prepare.

Knowledge and Practical Skills

Students do not only learn from books but also work on innovative projects involving real-world systems. Various tools are available for hands-on learning, such as a humanoid robot, robotic arm, drone, and autonomous vehicle.

Opportunities and Career Prospects

Internationalization

Most students participate in Erasmus+, a student mobility program for studying abroad (2 to 12 months), often completing their Master’s thesis overseas.

Dual Master’s Degree

Students can enroll in an international program jointly designed by UNISA and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Caen (ENSICAEN), France. This program involves coursework at both institutions, awarding graduates two Master’s degrees: an Italian Master’s in Computer Engineering and a French Diplôme d’Ingénieur de l’ENSICAEN, Spécialité Informatique

Employment Prospects

  • 100% of DIEM graduates find employment within one year of graduation
  • Average time to first employment: 1 month
  • 61% of students graduate before turning 23
