Ingegneria dell'Informazione per la Medicina Digitale Presentation

Educational Objectives

The course aims to train graduates with a solid scientific foundation and a sound understanding of the methods and technical-scientific content of information engineering. The objective is to develop specific skills for the use of information technologies in the design and implementation of systems and applications in the fields of digital medicine and, more broadly, life sciences.

Graduates will be able to contribute to the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of software applications for desktop, embedded, web, and mobile systems, with reference to digital medicine. These applications are intended for the acquisition of clinical and biomedical data from heterogeneous sources such as wearable sensors, biomedical devices, and clinical monitoring equipment, as well as for subsequent data processing and management.

Moreover, graduates will be able to work in the analysis, design, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software components of low- and medium-complexity healthcare information systems for hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers, in compliance with current regulations regarding data privacy and security.

The study program has a duration of three years, for a total of 180 ECTS credits. Admission is subject to a non-selective orientation test aimed at verifying the adequacy of the student’s initial preparation. The test used is the CISIA TOLC-I, a multiple-choice assessment covering reading comprehension, logic, mathematics, physics, and English.

The program is designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to solve problems in the application areas. Most courses include hands-on laboratory activities aimed at developing the student’s analytical and design abilities. A mandatory internship is required, to be carried out at accredited companies in the sector. The program also includes seminars, company presentations, and industrial site visits to enhance students’ exposure to real-world scenarios.

Upon completion of the three-year degree, graduates may enter the workforce directly or continue their studies with a master’s degree, particularly the master’s degree in information engineering for digital medicine, which allows for further specialization and development of design competencies in the field.

Finally, an Excellence Pathway is available for outstanding and highly motivated students, aimed at enriching and enhancing their academic experience. The Excellence Pathway includes additional learning activities beyond those required by the regular curriculum, scheduled annually by the Teaching Committee. Some of these activities are conducted in collaboration with leading national and international companies and may offer the opportunity to obtain professional certifications. Participation is financially supported by the Department.
