Course Description

Our undergraduate degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Cultures is a three year course. There is also the possibility for students to enrol on a part-time basis according to university regulations and provisions. The degree course is awarded once 180 credits have been obtained.

Admission to the degree course is possible following an admissions test and all of the information regarding the number of spaces available, the test content, time available, type of test and requirements are published yearly by the university at the following link: modalità di accesso-immatricolazioni

Admission to the degree course is only possible after having passed the admissions test (a multiple choice test), which aims to verify basic grammatical competencies, reading comprehensions of texts relevant to learning and studies, comprehension of literary texts, logical reasoning and general culture. Students who intend to study English as one of the foreign languages also have to undergo a multiple choice English level test (minimum A2 level).

The degree course provides students with the fundamentals of linguistics and literature for the languages studied as well as a good knowledge of the historical-cultural contexts (at least two languages from English, French, German, Russian and Spanish must be chosen). The course also aims to provide students with a solid grounding in general linguistics, Italian language and literature, European and American history as well as Geography. Likewise, students are prepared with the necessary IT skills required in the world of work.

Students are strongly encouraged to take part in the Erasmus programme as well as work experience opportunities in order to apply the linguistic and cultural skills acquired.

On completion of their studies, students will offer a variety of transferable skill sets that can be applied to various fields of work (culture, tourism and business).

Students who have obtained their undergraduate degree and wish to continue in further study can apply for the master’s degree in Modern Languages and Literature (LM-37) and from the academic year 2017-2018 onwards can also apply to the master’s degree in Linguistics and Italian Language Teaching in an International Context (LM-14), both available at the University of Salerno as a natural progression of their studies.
