Lingue e Culture Straniere Presentation

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Modern Languages and Cultures, which belongs to the Department of Humanities and is based at the University Campus of Fisciano, has a standard duration of three years. To obtain the degree, the student must acquire 180 ECTS credits. Part-time enrollment is also possible, in accordance with the rules established by the University.

The Degree Program (CdS) has locally restricted admission; the number of available places, the content, timing, procedures of the test, and the criteria for assigning additional learning requirements (OFA) are specified each year in the admission call published on the University Notice Board and on the webpage "modalità di accesso-immatricolazioni".

Enrollment in the Program is subject to passing a specific entrance examination consisting of multiple-choice questions designed to assess: basic grammatical skills; comprehension of complex texts functional to learning and study; comprehension of literary texts; logical reasoning; general knowledge.
Students who wish to choose English as one of their two foreign languages, upon request at the time of registration for the test, must pass a specific test (English Test) consisting of multiple-choice questions aimed at verifying A2/B1 level competence.

The CdS trains graduates with a solid linguistic and literary background and a good knowledge of the historical, cultural, artistic, and touristic contexts related to the chosen languages (at least two among French, English, Russian, Spanish, and German). The Program also aims to provide students with a solid grounding in general linguistics, Italian language and literature, European and American history and geography. Particular attention is given to acquiring IT skills necessary for entering the job market.

The Degree Program is structured into two curricula: one focused on the linguistic-literary field and the other on the linguistic-touristic field.

Linguistic-Literary Curriculum
The linguistic-literary pathway is designed to develop advanced skills in philology, literary criticism, and the historical-literary study of texts in the chosen languages of specialization. Students acquire tools to design educational programs in the teaching of foreign literatures and to foster the interaction between language and literature teaching. Particular emphasis is placed on the in-depth study of French, English, Russian, Spanish, and German literary texts, as well as on the comparative analysis of European and American cultures, in order to consolidate a critical and methodological preparation suitable both for academic research and for advanced teaching.

Linguistic-Touristic Curriculum
The linguistic-touristic pathway combines linguistic and artistic skills with methodological and digital tools applicable to the tourism and cultural sectors. Students develop abilities in the use of foreign languages for intercultural communication and acquire geo-economic, planning, and IT knowledge oriented toward internationalization, international cooperation, and the promotion of cultural heritage. This curriculum enables graduates to work professionally in areas related to cultural tourism, the management of educational programs, and the promotion of cultural initiatives, combining linguistic and interdisciplinary skills in a practical and professional context.

At the end of the course of study:

The graduate is able to express and argue in both written and oral form in the chosen languages, clearly and effectively in different contexts, having acquired the methodologies necessary to work on literary texts from a historical and comparative perspective; is able to understand and apply the methods and tools for the analysis and interpretation of texts from a linguistic, philological, and literary perspective (particularly for the first curriculum); is able to design culturally consistent itineraries, organize initiatives aimed at promoting and enhancing cultural and touristic heritage, propose touristic projects in collaboration with institutions of the countries studied, organize cultural events requiring specific skills in coordinating events with cultural and touristic purposes (particularly for the second curriculum).
During the course of study, the student is encouraged to take advantage of the Erasmus program and internship activities to test the practical use of the linguistic, cultural, and touristic skills acquired. At the end of the studies, the student possesses transferable skills that can be used in different professional fields (cultural, touristic, and corporate) thanks to the study of two languages with particular attention to specialized terminology and registers.

Students who, after completing the Bachelor’s degree, wish to continue their university studies may access the Master’s Degrees in Modern Languages and Literatures LM-37 and Linguistics and Teaching of Italian in the International Context LM-14, offered at the University of Salerno and designed in organic continuation of the three-year program.
