Matematica Tutoring

All activities are carried out in collaboration with the University Center for Orientation and Tutoring (CAOT).


The Degree Course also carries out an autonomous activity of orientation aimed at supporting students with opportunities, information and suggestions for a good organization of their university careers, to learn about the educational objectives, the necessary basic skills and the most efficient study methods. The orientation also aims at assisting students in designing their study plan and in choosing the most suitable degree thesis to enhance their skills, attitudes and interests.

More specifically, the orientation activity provides:

  1. general information on the degree course, to know its main contents and training objectives, as well as the study methods and basic skills necessary to successfully attend the courses and pass the exams;
  2. information on the contents of the courses, bibliographic material, structure of the study course, procedures for accessing courses and exams, including the final one, and scholarship opportunities;
  3. assistance in developing the study plan, also to fix sub-optimal starting conditions;
  4. assistance in choosing the degree thesis and/or training internship, to enhance the student's skills, attitudes and interests.
  5. any other indication to encourage adequate integration into university life and to make the training career as profitable as possible.

The orientation activities are managed by the Orientation Commission for ongoing students, which collaborates with the president of the Teaching Council, prof. Antonio Di Crescenzo.

The Orientation Commission for ongoing students promotes various initiatives to implement orientation, to follow students during their studies and to encourage the effective and regular development of their careers. The responsible person for the orientation of ongoing students for the Batchelor degree in Mathematics is prof. Luca Vitagliano.

Mathematics Pre-Course

The Degree Course organizes a pre-course focused on Basic Mathematics and Fundamentals of Mathematics, with the aim of both recalling basic mathematical concepts and developing greater awareness in those interested in enrolling.

Although not mandatory, the pre-course is strongly recommended to all those who intend to enroll in the Batchelor degree course in Mathematics, and especially for those who obtained an insufficient score for admission in the entrance test (TOLC-S).

The pre-course has a duration of 40 hours, has a laboratory and exercise structure, and is held in presence by professors of the Mathematics Department, typically in the 10 days before the start of the courses.

All students interested in participating are encouraged to send a message to the President of the Teaching Council, prof. Antonio Di Crescenzo, who will provide the necessary information.

Academic Year 2023-2024 Calendar

In the A.Y. 2023-2024, the lessons were held by prof. Gianluca Frasca Caccia and prof. Carmine Monetta, in room S6 (Building F, first floor), from 09.00 to 13.00 from Thursday 7 September to Wednesday 20 September 2023.

OFA recovery

The intensive OFA recovery courses are target all students who intend to enroll in the Degree Course in Mathematics, despite not having exceeded the minimum threshold required by the TOLC-S test. Course attendance is mandatory, with a 30% tolerance for absences. To fulfill the OFA, passing the final verification test is required. The courses are also open to other interested students for whom there is no obligation.

There are two OFA recovery courses: “Basic Mathematics” and “Reasoning, problems and reading comprehension”. For the A.Y. 2023-2024 the instructor responsible for both is Dr. Anna Amirante.

Orientation Day

The Orientation Commission for ongoing students organizes, once a year, an orientation day in order to present to students

- the course opportunities, particularly for optional courses,

- international mobility opportunities (in collaboration with the Internationalization Commission),

- external internship opportunities (in collaboration with the Internship manager),

- all other opportunities for students to effectively orient their study careers.

The orientation day is held before the start of lessons of the first semester and in any case before the deadline for submitting study plans.

Assistance with Study Plans

The Orientation Commission for ongoing students provides assistance to students in planning the study plan with particular attention to optional courses. The Commission provides consultancy throughout the academic year and especially in the period preceding the deadline for submitting study plans:

- providing information on the criteria that govern optional courses in the degree course regulations;

- suggesting choices consistent with the study plan;

- suggesting choices compatible with the student's interests and attitudes.

Disciplinary Seminars

The Orientation Commission for ongoing students organizes disciplinary seminars for the acquisition of the 3 CFU of "Other Useful Knowledge for the Job Market" appearing in the study plan. The disciplinary seminars aims to increase knowledge, skills and training aspects in all areas of Mathematics that contribute to the Study Course. The disciplinary seminars optimize the student's preparation and training by discussing with topics not included in the curricular teaching programs. Student Applications to the Teaching Council

The Orientation Commission for ongoing students reviews student applications for evaluation by the Teaching Council and provides assistance to students on all related requests: change of study plan, recognition of foreign language exams, recognition of "Other Activities" credits, evaluation of previous career, etc.

Tutoring and Integrative Teaching

The Study Course organizes tutoring and supplementary teaching activities (Help Teaching) for the Bachelor degree students. Tutoring and Help Teaching lessons are carried out by doctoral students, master's students, master's graduates, PhDs and research fellows and consist of meetings and exercises useful for dealing with specific difficulties that the student may encounter on certain topics. All students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
