Educational Objectives
The course aims to develop a modern computer engineering professional capable of meeting the educational demands of the labor market. This includes a solid foundation in core disciplines such as mathematics and physics, as well as engineering principles in key areas of information engineering, such as electronics, automation, and telecommunications. Additionally, it emphasizes an in-depth methodological and technological expertise in core computer science fields, such as hardware, software, and computer networks.
Special focus is given to integrating computer science knowledge with other information engineering disciplines, such as automation and telecommunications, to create a professional with a comprehensive, interdisciplinary perspective. Several courses are designed to illustrate how computer science is applied in design and implementation across various fields, including industrial computing contexts.
The program lasts three years, requiring the completion of 180 ECTS credits. Admission is granted after a non-selective orientation test that evaluates the student’s initial preparation. This test (CISIA TOLC-I) consists of multiple-choice questions on topics such as text comprehension, logic, mathematics, physics, and English.
The study path aims to equip students with knowledge and skills necessary to solve problems in the aforementioned fields. Most courses include laboratory-based experimental activities designed to develop students’ analytical and design abilities. Additionally, an internship is mandatory for all students and is carried out in accredited companies within the sector. The program also features seminars, company presentations, and visits to relevant businesses.
Upon completing the bachelor’s degree, graduates can either enter the workforce or continue their education in a Master’s Degree program.
Curricula
The program offers three specialized curricula, allowing students to deepen their knowledge in specific thematic areas:
- The SOFTWARE Curriculum focuses on developing applications, with particular emphasis on web applications and mobile apps.
- The SYSTEMS Curriculum specializes in the development of interconnected hardware devices (Internet of Things) and automation technologies.
- The NETWORKS Curriculum concentrates on next-generation telecommunication networks (e.g., 5G) and cybersecurity issues.
An Excellence Pathway is also available, aimed at enhancing the education of deserving students who are interested in advanced and culturally enriching activities. This pathway includes additional training activities beyond the standard program, planned annually by the Academic Council. Some activities are conducted in collaboration with leading national and international companies and may lead to professional certifications. The pathway is financially supported by the department.
The natural progression for graduates in Computer Engineering is the Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, which further develops sector-specific knowledge and completes design-related competencies.
Accreditation
In 2013, and reaffirmed in 2020, the Computer Engineering degree program received the prestigious EUR-ACE (EURopean ACcredited Engineer) quality accreditation. This recognition highlights the program’s commitment to improving the educational process and continuously updating its content to meet labor market demands.
